Long story short, my cat had her annual dental/lion cut shave one and a half weeks ago. She had a long recovery from the anesthesia, she was very out of it and drugged up. I was not able to give her the clavamox the vet prescribed, but after 7 days she seemed to be on the mend. On Saturday I noticed that her left ear was draining and there was a foul smell. Obviously an ear infection. Of course it happened on the weekend, so my vet was not open. I started to give her the clavamox in hopes this will help. My questions, am I doing the right thing by giving her the clavamox? Could the infection been caused by the anesthesia or maybe the vet techs got water in her ear since they gave her a bath after her shave? I'm so worried and heart broken for my girl. She went through so much from her recovery and i really hate having to bring her back to the vet, I know I have to:(. Any advice?

Well, I don't think it will hurt anything, but definitely call the vet in the morning and ask them if you should continue using it or switch her to something else.  You may even need to take her in so they can look at the ear and be sure it's not a ruptured abscess or something other than an ear infection.

Usually for an ear infection we have always just done the prescription ear ointment (Derma-Vet) and never done an antibiotic, so the Clavamox may be overkill.

Thank you for the feedback. My vet has put her on zenequin 25mg for 14 days. She is definitely feeling better, but the ear is still draining. Fingers crossed it works!
