Mary Jane went into labor about an hour ago. I just knew it was going to be today. She's been in her nesting box all day and her teats were very swollen and hanging. Sure enough, when the real contractions began she called for us (DH and I!)

I made the mistake of moving her box into the bedroom. I've never seen a cat in labor and to be honest, I thought she was going to kill the kitten the way she growled and rolled. The first little furry was born 3 minutes ago! A tabby, which is just what my husband wanted! I haven't heard anything more than little sniffles. I have no clue whether or not to be worried. They sound like tiny little coughs. She is cleaning the baby vigorously.

She definitely wanted me close. She ate a bit of food and got to pushing. I sat here and offered comfort when she needed it. She would whimper at me and when I offered my hand she leaned into it and licked it. I'm anxious for things to continue now, haha. Going to be a long night!

And baby number Two has arrived! She gave the firstborn to me while she birthed the second :)

Only two babies. One boy, a dark tabby, and a girl, looks tabby w/ some random ginger splotches. MJ has been doing great! She is recovering well, eating and drinking plenty and the babies are quite content. I have to modify the nest box. It's a bit small, but all I had available at the time. It works well but one baby managed to crawl out this morning... :/

We'll be keeping the dark tabby and a friend is taking his sister in September. Vet appt on Wednesday to schedule neutering and shots. I also need a flea treatment for MJ. We had a dog here for a few days a few weeks ago and he brought them in. I saw one on her yesterday. Is there anything that can be safely used on her with newborns?

Revolution should be OK.  But if they arent many you can perhaps manage to take them manually?

Use a comb.

The tabby + red is called for torbie, I think.

Yeah I'm gonna need the heavy stuff. I don't think a flea comb alone can take this. It seems they're multiplying by the hour. One flea last night was 5 fleas today. Who knows how many I'm not seeing. Ugh she was flea free before, too! Flea collars are a big no-no, right? That's all I have immediately. I can't get Revolution until Wednesday when the clinic is open.
