Hello and thanks in advance for your advice

I'd need your guidance on how to proceed regarding a very minor cat bite. It happened 5 days ago in Israel while on holiday.

I was staying at a relative's apartment. He has a 2-3 year old cat whom he "adopted" from the street. She was very social and sweet all the time but once while I was petting her she bite me a bit on my arm (it was a really shallow bite that looks more like a tiny scratch). I'm now worried because the cat used to be a street cat and she still comes and goes as she wants. She always sleeps and eats in the apartment and even sleeps in bed with the owners. But yet she also spends significant amounts of time wandering around the neighbourhood. I don't know whether she's vaccinated against rabies or not. She had, however, a leg amputated a while ago, when she was adopted, and visited a couple of vets for prior assessments on her leg and finally surgery. Is it fair to assume that if the vet amputated the leg he would have also vaccinated her? But I don't think cats get vaccinated in Israel all the time...

I've asked my GP back in the UK about PEP but they have no idea about rabies and haven't ever heard of PEP. Do you think I should insist on getting PEP or should I wait for a bit?

Thanks for the advice!

Does her owner have any records from the vet? That may give you some info. Make sure you keep the bite cleand and put some sort of antibiotic ointment or cream on it, even though it was shallow. If you can, you might want to ask a local doctor for advice.

See you own doctor the minute you get home, too.
