We're having a party - it's been a few years! I'm pretty excited, it's nice to have something to plan and look forward to. The occasion is my husband's grad student is receiving her Ph.D. so the party is in her honor.

I'm planning the food right now, which makes me wonder what are your favorite party foods? What foods do you look forward to when you are going to - or hosting - a party?

Seems when people come to the island they want seafood, so I've put our favorites sushi and smoked salmon on the list. I'm making sure the vegetarians have enough to eat, plus the vegans, also a variety of dairy-free (for my husband), and gluten-free, whew. I also don't know how many people will come, it could be 20 or could be 50!

It depends on what the party is for and the time of the year. In the summer, anything done on the grill is fair game. In the winter, I look for foods I can do in the crock pots.

Have fun at your party! It sounds like a wonderful time!!

I'm a big fan of things that are easy to prepare ahead; like pasta salad.  And things like fruit and veggie trays!  Mom and I have picked up dip mixes at craft fairs that are fabulous for things like that.

My Mom is planning a surprise birthday party for my step-dad with a Luau theme so we are working the menu to go along with that.  She has a recipe for a macaroni salad that has diced peppers in it and more of a vinegar based "sauce" than mayo.  She got the idea to add baby shrimp to it.  She is also doing cocktail meatballs with this pineapple something or other sauce (helpful aren't I?).  I will be making pulled pork in the crock pot.  That's always a hit!!  I think I told her I'd make something else...I just don't remember what...I better check with her because the party is in like 2 weeks!

Mac salad and hot dogs wrapped in biscuit dough are my 2 favorites that are common for my family to do.  Fruit salad during the summer.  My brother does parties often and that is about the only ones we go to:S  Neighbor does many but hers are TO LOUD so we stay home and even then can hear the music just fine with window units in!

We really don't have dinner parties... usually just get togethers with the family. My mom usually is always asked to make potato salad to go with barbecued food. For me personally I look forward to the desserts.

Potato salad! I love, love, love potato salad! My mother made the best potato salad around. And I can't make it like she does. There's nothing wrong with mine and people tell me that it tastes like Mom's, but I don't think so. I could eat potato salad every day and not get tired of it.

My problem is that my family always wants the same old standbys and I get sick of making them and want to try something new. :lol3: I really branched out for my mother's birthday party and everything was well received. :) Party pizza that you order form the bakery is big in this area and you will find it at most parties.
