So Khaleesi has an appointment tomorrow morning to get spayed. The people who are doing her surgery (Spay Waggin) sent me a PDF with pre-surgical instructions to follow. They said that all food and water should be taken away after midnight tonight, UNLESS your kitten is under 4 months old (she's 12 weeks). If she is under 4 months, a small breakfast should be given.

I worked at an animal hospital for 5 years and know that fasting was always an important part of surgery. Even in the PDF they say that failing to fast your pet can cause stomach problems/vomiting during surgery.

Anyone have any experience with this? Should I fast her or give her a small breakfast like they say?

Edit: Also, she is due for her Advantage (yesterday actually). Her and Kaylee are indoor kittens/cats, but I paid a lot for the four month supply I got so I want to use it while they're still kittens. Should I hold off on giving this to her until after the surgery?

My vet has always said to take the food away but they can still have water. I've not heard anything different for different ages. Personally I wouldn't give her even a small breakfast unless you know for sure the surgery won't be until afternoon.

Sorry, I don't know about giving Advantage. Is there any information on the package?

I went with what I knew and decided to fast her. I think her being a little hungry is better than her vomiting while under the knife.

Just dropped her off. I'm a nervous momma! :c

I agree that's it was best to just fast her, even though she's young.
Good luck with the surgery! I'm sure she'll be fine.

As for the Advantage, personally I would wait until after the surgery and give some time to recover. I never do our cats if they're unwell at all, as the Advantage seems to knock them back for a day. Especially given how young Khaleesi is, the Advantage could be a double whammy for her little body.
