I got a 12 week old kitten on June 20th. We took her to the vet (different than our usual Dr. but same office) before we brought her into our home to make sure she didn't have anything going on and to give her wormer and her 1st set of shots. While we were at the vet I noticed that she had a few scabs on her when I was petting her. I showed them to the vet who assured me it didnt look like ringworm and to wait a few days to see if revolution and wormer would clear it up. She said it looked like she may have had ear mites and been treated for them because she didn't see any under the microscope. We checked her for FIV and Felv and both were negative. She seemed pretty healthy besides the scabs.

On the way home I called the lady that I got the kitten from and asked her if she noticed the scabs. She told me she hadn't noticed them and they could be from playing with the other kittens. After a few days of handling her I noticed a ton more scabs and some small bald spots. Made an appt with our normal vet on Monday. They checked her with the black light and she glowed everywhere! She is covered in ringworm! I wish I would have known that it takes seconds to turn on a light and see them. I'm so irritated that they didn't do that on the 1st visit.

When I told the lady that gave me the kitten about her having ringworm, I found out some of her other cats have it and so does the lady!! I am so pissed!! She acted like she had no idea that my kitten had it.

I got this kitten so my other kitten (same age) could have a playmate. I only introduced them to each other twice for a short amount of time but seeing how contagious it is, he may have it now. Should I shampoo him with the other cats shampoo? I was keeping the new kitten in my sons room until we could fully introduce her to the other kitten. Now she will have to be in there until the ringworm is gone.

I have 3 kids, 3 dogs, 2 parakeets, 2 kittens, and 2 mice (which are in the same room with the cat in an aquarium). The kitten has been sleeping in my sons bed with him. The bedroom has carpet and doesn't get direct sunlight during the day.

Is there anything I can do to help keep the spores down or eliminate them from his room? Do the spores float through the air? Is there any kind of spray that I can put on the carpet or bed to kill the spores? I have heard some ppl talk about lysol but on the bottle it doesn't say ringworm, just athletes foot. Will vacuuming suck them up and keep them inside or just spray them back into the air? I have a bagless vacuum cleaner. Would putting cat toys or my sons things in the sun outside kill the spores? Can the birds and mice get ringworm?

The vet gave us tirbinafine and ketochlor shampoo. We treat with the oral meds for 2 weeks on, then 2 weeks off and use the shampoo twice a week and leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing. What fun this is all going to be. I think I would rather that we had lice. Has anyone treated their cat with these meds and had great success? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Sounds like this is going to be a long process and could get ugly real fast.

Thanks for listening.

My kitten turned out to have ringworm when I brought him home several months ago. He was treated with an oral medication and it hasn't returned (cross fingers). I seem to have to gotten away with it with minimal fuss, which I put down to having no other pets or people around. But in my researching I found a product called F10SC, a veterinary disinfectant. I ordered some but haven't felt the need to use it. It kills ringworm spores and is supposed to be non-toxic, unlike bleach. I'm not sure whether you can order it where you are, but I found it at an online pet store. It might be worth looking into, or any similar product that may be out there.

Good luck!!
