My newly adopted, formerly stray cat, Patrick, has stud tail.  He pulled out a bunch of greasy hair this morning and it looks awful.  His vet is supposed to call me back, but I wondered if any of you guys had any insight.

He was just neutered Friday, and he had a little bit of feline acne on his chin that is already mostly cleared up.  Do you all think that his stud tail will go away on its own now that he's fixed?  I hate to bathe the poor little guy, because he's been through so much already (antibiotics, ear mites, nearly starved, shots, blood tests, neutering, etc.).

My almost three year old spayed female cat Perla has stud tail..... but don't tell her that. :lol3: Yep, that's right - a spayed female and she was spayed as a kitten. This is what I do for her tail and honestly, it has gotten better but I am half wondering if she will have this condition always. She also had chin acne but since changing to an all raw/wet diet - it has cleared. Although, she eats mostly grain-free canned food - she hates raw. :wife: :lol2:

Here is how I wash her tail and I do this once weekly. It has really improved.

I use Hibiclens first http://www.hibiclens.com/ which you can get at any pharmacy. Then I put Vetericyn on the tail after it is dry and clean. The Vetericyn is a very, very safe product to use on cats and has a great anti-bacterial effect. It is a pump spray and actually looks like water! I rub it in well. Her case was bad when I first discovered it a few months back. Now it is diminishing to about a three to four inch section half way down her tail. We are making progress!!!!:clap::clap:

OH - I also shaved the tail when I first found the clogged/greasy pores. I would recommend doing this to start. Now her hair has grown back but I am still able to get down to the skin. She has come to accept the washing of her tail. I just hold her under my arm with her tail under the faucet. She doesn't even squirm at all. Such a good girl, my Perla. :heart2:

Thank you, Feralvr!  Ugh, I guess he'll have to put up with a tail wash.  I am dismayed to hear that neutering may not fix it.  He is on an all wet diet, but he is also still full of testosterone. ;)
