Has anyone heard of this thing that vets now do where they put something over the cats claws? I know very little about it but someone mentioned to me that they put some sort of coating over the claw as an alternative to declawing? I will admit the cat I just lost was 4 paw declawed, but she was 17 & I had no idea what they did when they declawed a cat. Now that I know I would NEVER declaw, but having never owned a cat with claws I'm a little afraid of a cat with claws. As I will no doubt be getting two cats sometime soon I was wondering if this is an OK option of it is painful or somehow dangerous for the cat. Any info would be good.

I know what you mean - Kitty (17) is also 4 paw declaw. However, we now have cats with claws and I must say - if you have scratching posts available - you shouldn't have much of a problem - as long as you teach the new cats to use them. The only time I've gotten scratched (by Charm) is when she was wriggling to get down and I didn't respond. Plus, we try to keep the girls nails trimmed on a regular basis. You won't have any problem (hopeful thinking).
