Hi everyone...

Next week at my grocery store I can get Sheba cat food - $2 for 6 of them with the sale price and coupons.  Great deal, right?  What do you guys think of these ingredients - grain free and no vegetables?!  Calculated carbs on Dry Matter Basis @ 6.82%

Chicken, Chicken Broth, Meat By-Products, Chicken Liver, Poultry By-Products, Natural Flavor, Guar Gum, Added Color, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Minerals (Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Zinc Sulfate, Iron Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate), Fish Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Vitamins (Choline Chloride, Thiamine Mononitrate [Vitamin B1], Vitamin E Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride [Vitamin B6], Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex [Source of Vitamin K Activity]), DL-Methionine, Salt, Taurine.

Beef, Meat Broth, Meat By-Products, Poultry By-Products, Beef Liver, Chicken, Minerals (Calcium Carbonate, Potassium Chloride, Magnesium Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Iron Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Copper Sulfate), Natural Flavor, Guar Gum, Added Color, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Fish Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Vitamins (Choline Chloride, Thiamine Mononitrate [Vitamin B1], Vitamin E Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride [Vitamin B6], Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex [Source of Vitamin K Activity]), DL-Methionine, Salt, Taurine.

Turkey, Turkey Broth, Meat By-Products, Poultry Giblets, Chicken, Poultry By-Products, Natural Flavor, Guar Gum, Added Color, Sodium Tripolyphosphate, Minerals (Potassium Chloride, Calcium Carbonate, Magnesium Sulfate, Potassium Iodide, Zinc Sulfate, Iron Sulfate, Copper Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate), Fish Oil (Preserved with Mixed Tocopherols), Vitamins (Choline Chloride, Thiamine Mononitrate [Vitamin B1], Vitamin E Supplement, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride [Vitamin B6], Vitamin D3 Supplement, Folic Acid, Menadione Sodium Bisulfite Complex [Source of Vitamin K Activity]), DL-Methionine, Salt, Taurine.

Looks similar to FF classics... is there anything to be wary of - maybe "Added Color"?

I'd grab a couple to try before I bought a ton at .33 cents a can... but if she likes it, is this a decent option?

Looking online, it seems that it used to be not nutritionally complete - not sure if these new cans are or are not.  I'd only get it if it is.

Thanks!

They do seem very similar to FF Classics. The possibly questionable ingredients are by-products (impossible to know what's included), added color, menadione. However, there's no grains or other veggie/fruit fillers, no carrageenan. Named meat and named broth are top 2 ingredients, and it is overall high animal protein. I say for that price, it's definitely worth a shot. Oh, and they do seem nutritionally complete, but it should say it on the can.

Hey thanks for your help.  I calculated it and I can actually get them for .21c each if I buy 40 of them (with coupons from ebay - that's including the cost for the coupons themselves).  So, assuming she likes the ones I get for her to sample, I'll have them as part of my rotation for a while... it's about $8.30 for 40 cans of food

Make sure that you include the cost of shipping in your calculations. And also make sure they are not past the 'use by' date. I buy them for 55 cents at Walmart and only give them 2 cans a week among the 5 of them.

Thanks catspaw

There's no shipping for the cans, I'm getting them at the grocery store (Publix) and they definitely aren't expired (cans of coupons)... They are .50 each, but there are Buy One Get One Free Publix store coupons and Buy 3 Get 1 Free Manufacturer's coupons.  You can use them together.  So for every (4) you buy, you only pay for 1 (use (2) Buy One Get One coupons and (1) Buy 3 Get 1).  Believe me, I know my coupons ;)  So It would be 4 for .50 cents except I'm paying about $3 for enough coupons to buy 40 of them.

So you buy 40.

20 are free with 20 B1G1 Free Publix Coupons

10 are free with 10 B3 G1 Free Manufacturer's Coupons (every 4th can is free with this coupon)

= you pay for 10 and they are on sale 10 for $5.  So that's $5 for 40 of them plus the cost of the coupons themselves... and sales tax

Did I confuse you yet?

I also know someone who found some Buy One Get One Free Manufacturer's Coupons who is going to try and find more for me... with those, you can use one BOGO Publix and one BOGO Manufacturer's coupon for every 2 cans and only pay tax.  I wouldn't have to pay for these if my friend finds some for me.

Kitty will be happy!

I've used coupons for food and toiletries etc for a while now, but never for cat food.

I've never fed it, but every time the commercial comes on we tell our blue cat Lucky we want our cut of the royalty check for his appearance since he looks like the cat. LOL>

Thanks for posting the ingredients, let us know how you like it.
