I have read so many labels online of the different foods...my head hurt. I am not going with raw or homemade...just can't do it at this time.

That would be my optimum choice. That said...I have to feed something decent and I settled on Life's Abundance Instinct canned and Life's Abundance dry food (as a supplemental meal) for the 3 kittens we have adopted. I know there is debate on wet and dry...but I would like to do both. With the emphasis on wet.

I ran the numbers, I read the articles and  recalls etc in Truth about pet food and the reviews on all the different companies I looked at....I came back to this one each time. li

This will be 72.00 per month. I put it on auto ship to see how it works out. If they like it and tolerate it well (right now they seem to like Fancy Feast Turkey and Iams kitten dry...so I am hoping they will like the new stuff) I think we can live with this cost.

They are 9weeks old this weekend so I am hoping I am doing a good thing. I am thinking longevity and good health. We can always try something else if it does not fly but I feel it is a step up and we shall see.

Here's hoping.

Sounds good! One thing I think is important, and especially for kittens, is to offer a big variety so they don't get hooked on one thing (it can be a terrible thing if your cat only eats one food and it gets discontinued or recalled!). So grab a few cans of random brands now and then, offer a bit of cooked and raw meats, etc. Just to keep your options open for the future :D.

Variety is good! I remember when I first got my cat, she ate nothing but Wellness pate. Although I rotated flavors I found out after a few months that she got really bored of the texture and I had to look for foods with different textures. Since your cat is still a kitten, take advantage of that and introduce a bunch of different brands/textures/proteins!

Good luck.

Thanks for the support and ideas. As they are 3 kittens who had a tough start I am keeping close eyes on them...paying attention to the bowels and tolerance so will get them through this transition and hopefully they do well with the changes.

Our cats in the past at mostly dry food but there was never an issue once they were adults with switching things up.

I am hoping these little babes do as well and with better nutrition than our previous loves.

I was not sure if it was ok to offer some cooked chicken along with their food thinking it would throw the nutrition out of balance while little but I figure once we are out of these early months, and they get spayed and neutered in Sept. and if their health is good we will be more apt to try other good things.

Honestly...the information is incredible about pet food and the merging of companies and changing of product lines etc once they merge, the testimonials and all the recalls etc...it can make you crazy.

I fed our Dalmatian raw and home made for 15 (almost...she passed a couple months shy of 15) years. I was so used to doing it...but life is in the way right now and these kittens were so fragile to start with...I don't have it in me to do the raw. Who knows what the future holds? It may come to that some day!

thanks again! Carol

It is fine to offer supplemental meats such as cooked chicken or even some raw pieces as long as it is less then 15% of their diet.

This is exactly what made me finally do the switch to raw lol

There is some good commercial raw available to make adding some to their diet very easy. Natures Variety, Primal, Bravo or Rad Cat(the best).

thanks again! Carol

I also thought raw was cumbersome until the users here told me about Hare-Today and Alnutrin. Although unlike you, I only have one adult cat to feed I find that feeding balanced raw is a lot more simpler than I imagined!

When you are ready I recommend looking through the articles and resource guide for raw. :)
