Hi everyone I am new on this site! My mom and sister found a 2 well old kitten abandoned 4 weeks ago. He is now 6 weeks and is doing really good!! I just had a question. He is eating really well on his kitten canned food and will try to eat his dry kitten food but has some problems. When should he be able to eat dry kitten food only and no more canned? Also how many times should I be feeding him throughout the day now? Before I was feeding him every 3 hours, yes he went to work with me. Lol. Now I feed him every 4-5 hours and once during the night. Am I feeding him too much? If I don't feed him every 4-5 hours he acts like he's being starved. Lol. He's a very good little kitten& is very active. I just want to make site I'm doing things correctly.

If at all possible, don't transition him to dry food. Wet is really better for him. I believed the story that dry was best and ended up with three fat cats who have rotten teeth. It has been awful trying to get them on an all wet diet.

At six weeks, he should still be eating every four hours or so. He's still too young for dry - that's why he's having trouble with it.

I agree with Ondine. Wet / canned is better than dry = more healthy.

It is also easier to make a decent wet than decent dry.  So you can give him almost any canned, it it will be OK. While you must actively seek and choose a decent dry to get anywhere near an OK nourishment from dry.

The positive with dry it is easier to handle it, for example leave it many hours, it doesnt get bad so quickly.

Also, if you plan to adopt out the kitten, or let it stay in a boarding house,  it is wise to learn it to eat dry.  You can never know what the new owners fancy to give.

But as their main diet, wet is best, so just proceed with it!   :)

Good luck!
