6-week-old kitten, question about litter

We have a six-week old kitten my son found under a car in North Philly. He thought its eyes were closed because it was so young, but as soon as I saw it I knew it was older and the eyes were infected. A visit to the vet confirmed conjunctivitis in both eyes (and he is sneezing a bit, too). He is now on oral antibiotic with an ointment for the eyes as well. If their eyes continue to ooze I'd take them back to the vet.

And I've seen the non-clumping litter mentioned here on other forums? Why non-clumping for kittens? We had to have our 13-year old cat put down a few weeks ago and since this kitten arrived unexpectedly we've been making do with what we had on hand which was a few cans of fancy feast and a bit of clumping litter. I'm off to the pet store now for kitten appropriate food and litter, but I'm really curious as to why non-clumping.

Hi Carylin.  Non clumping because small kitten do taste on everyting, and also on litter.  Non clumping is less dangerous than  clumping, if they do get it inside.
