My cat is heavily pregnant, she has pulled the fur from around her nipples, shes not producing milk as of yet, she is constantly lying down, shes having more frequent and more wet bowel movements, ive been seeing the kittens moving for two weeks, are any of these signs of labour? Shes very calm, affectionate. Ive got her kittening bix ready and she seems to like it.

It is apparently near, but the exact hour is impossible to say. Even if most of the "signs" may be there.

Quite a few cats do get milk first shortly after delivery, but only very seldom they dont get milk at all.

So dont worry she doesnt seems to have milk as yet.

Good luck!

Thank you, I do worry. Shes the first pregnant stray I have ever adopted and I want to make sure that everything is ok. Ive got everything she needs now and im just letting her relax. I think she may be having some sort of contractions as her belly is tensing and her legs are going upwards but it could be the kittens making her uncomforrable. Thanks

Good luck to you and your mama cat. I have one here too in about the same condition. Her nipples are really visible for the first time today. We have had her only two weeks so gauging her behavior and what is her normal is not easy. We just look for what is different from the last two weeks. So far, the nipple exposure is the only thing different.

Hopefully soon, we will both have healthy kittens to announce. My husband and I have to leave town Monday and I am going to hate it. My mother in law is coming to stay and take care of the animals. She's a cat person. I know everything will be fine, I just feel better knowing it's done and all is well before I go. It's only 3 days though.

Congratulations! Glad all is well and all are healthy. Big Mama is still holding on but it shant be too much longer. She began scouting for a nest last night and has taken on a waddling stance in the past two days.

Post photos when you get the chance.

Glad to hear that  it seems to have gone well  .   Izzy sounds like the instinct kicked in and she knew just what she was doing.

I take it they are all nursing fine?    ( you asked earlier about the milk . but as Stefan says it is not uncommon they don't get the milk until they have the kittens)

It does not get more precious than that. The contented look on mom's face says it all. 9 times out of 10, they know what they are doing. It is our nerves that get frazzled until it's all said and done.

Aw good luck everyone with their pregnant kittys.
My kitty is so proud, shes purring constantly and wont leave them alone. There so beautiful, one of them is a little weaker than the rest so im keeping my eye on her and will use supplement milk if she loses weight xx

Look how happy Izzy looks!   Congrats to her on her babies and thanks to you for taking in a pregnant stray kitty.

Good to hear that you are going to be monitoring weights so you will know if you need to supplement with kitten replacement milk formula.

You probably already have read or been told that you want to see a gain of at least 10 grams ( about 1/3 ounce)  a day.    Ideally more of an average of 15  grams per day.

But the first day it is normal if they don't gain much,

1. because of the stress of being born, and they are no longer automatically getting fed through the placenta, but learning to nurse.

 2. Plus,  the colostrum ( the first milk, that has the big dose of maternal antibodies)  has fewer calories than her millk will have after that.

looks like you have at least one or two torties or torbies ( though some could be brown tabbies).

Yes the vets did explain to me thankfully, at the moment they seem totally satisfied, not mewing whatsoever. Im so thankful izzy has done such a wonderful job,
I was thinking they may be tabby like their mother but I could be wrong. In the next two weeks im going to take them to the vets for a health check up, make sure there wormed etc. Then in seven weeks time izzy will be spayed, and she wont be allowed outside until then and the other male cats I have have been casterated. Xx

Cute lil things!

2 Brown Mackerel Tabbies (or Torbies -- i think at least the one on the right is going to be a Torbie like Mama),  a Black Tortie , a Black and a Red ( ginger)
