I have an 8-week old kitten. He has fleas. I have Advantage II for kittens 5 lbs and under but I won't use it. Too dangerous. Is Capstar (pills) safe? I don't want to use dawn and tweezers because he won;t stay still I guarantee it.

Anyone have advice?

I myself am not familiar with the Capstar pills, I've always used Advantage (for my adult cats).  I'm sure there are others that are familiar that will be along to respond shortly

If you have a kitten with a very mild infestation, like at most a couple of fleas when combed, can't you just comb then a couple or 3 times a day?  Would that ever work, or is it a pipe dream?

Also, isn't it assumed that if they have fleas they also have worms?  Why is that?  And, other than fleas, would the only other symptom (other than seeing the worms) be diarrhea?

How heavy is your kitten's flea infestation?  Why don't you want to comb the kitten for fleas?

One bath with Dawn should get most of them. Someone can scruff him while you bath. Combing the rest out is a good idea and will get him used to being groomed.

Tapeworms apparently use the cat's intestinal system and show up whenever there are fleas. They are the little white worms that look like rice. They and fleas apparently have a symbiotic relationship of some sort. Ech!

I can't imagine the Capstar would hurt her but I'd check with the vet first.

He was dewormed and tested for worms.

I don't want to brush him because it took three weeks just to get him to come out frm under the dresser, when he sees something in my hand he leaves.

Ah. This might be one of those times when you need to do something he doesn't like for his own good. (and yours, too, when you think about it!)

You may have to hide the comb until you have him securely in your lap. But talk to the vet about the Capstar first. Maybe you can avoid traumatizing him :)
