I have been looking at some pre-owned wedding ring sets and have found one I really like. There is a no return policy. The person selling says he purchased it for a lady friend, but never gave it to her. The price is good. The ring comes with an appraisal done back in 2001. The rings are not soldered together. The clarity and color of the diamonds is given on the appraisal which is included with the sale. The money is less than $500. Has anyone ever made this kind of purchase and what precautions and questions did you take before hand.

I have never bought jewelry except for an inexpensive watch.  Had problems with it.  Seller replaced the watch, not nicely.

I've bought lots of other items through eBay, though not as frequently because Amazon has free shipping and prices sometimes are competitive.

Ebay has eBay Buyer Protection which you can buy to protect you if you're not satisfied with the purchase.  I'd purchase this insurance especially because the Seller does not offer a return policy (and why is that, I wonder?)

I would want to see the original appraisal before purchasing the item, as well as the receipt, if available.  The appraisal is more than 10 years old--has the value gone up/down in that time frame?

And remember:  you won't be able to return the ring if your intended doesn't like the style/doesn't fit/etc.

I have not made a jewelry purchase this large but I do buy other things this expensive on eBay.  If the seller is not offering any return options, if it were me, I would keep looking.  Just my $0.02.  :)

I have not; but I know a friend of mine was looking there and on Etsy to replace her rings.  I do think the buyer protection program might be worth it in this case.

I have bought 2 jewelery items on eBay. Both were a positive experience. I only bought from vendors that have very high ratings. And the items were exactly as described.
