Today I have returned from a holiday in Sicily. I stayed at an apartment I had found on trip advisor. It was a lovely place set in the stunning grounds of the owner. I was not there for long when I realised that I had company....the owner, a really lovely lady had a feral colony in her grounds as well as several rescues in her home.

The garden cats were fed and had a safe place to be and were clearly loved by the owner. However they were thin ( not a bad thing , its a hot place and its better to be on the thin side than obese) but I know that they were full of worms and not one was neutered. I noticed to my dismay that at least two of the females were pregnant.

The owner is not at all cruel , indeed she kindly gave me a lift to get the airport bus this morning on her way to the vets with a kitten. I think that she is soon going to be swamped by ever breeding cats and I worry for her and of course them. It is however very difficult to give advice to your holiday host without giving offence!

I told her that I would email her some info but am finding it difficult to find out about groups in Italy as I do not speak much Italian. Can anyone help?

Also does anyone know of a topical wormer that I could recommend ?

I have been really touched by the cats that I saw there as well as the kindness of their carer and would like to do all I can to help. I got the feeling that money was not too much of a problem, more that practical advice and support are needed.

Thanks for the bump!

After a lot of work and thanks to the help of google translate ,I found an Italian version of this site. It too has a section on ferals and TNR! I sent her an email earlier as well as a translation of TNR. For anyone interested its, Trappola Castrare Liberazione !

Until I came across this site, I had no idea about TNR or raw feeding etc. I hope that the site I have directed her to will help her as this one has helped me.

Just a couple of hours later she sent me a lovely reply thanking me and saying that I was a "very sensible woman" and she is going to look at the site. The kitten who she is taking to the vets daily is responding well .

I plan to keep in touch with her and have offered my help and advice in any way I can.
