I have been in need of new glasses for a few years, but because I have progressive lenses, between the lenses and the frames, they tend to cost me around $600!!!  So I have been putting off getting new ones.

Someone at work showed me the above link. You can order eye glasses online!

You can upload a picture of yourself (or in the case of me, I used one of Rosie O'Donnell, because we both have fat round faces
) and try them on so you know what you look like.

I did a trial run through checkout, and found that I can order glasses for around $58.85!   Did I mention that I paid $600 for my last pair?!  At these prices I can buy more than 1 pair and maybe even start using glasses as a fashion statement instead of just a necessity.

Give it a try if you need glasses.  It is very easy to understand how to enter your prescription.

I'm off to browse some more. I found 5 pair that I really like, and need to try and narrow them down,  lol

I just got progressives ($750!) but had to go back to get adjustments several times. I'm not sure how that would work buying them online.

Progressive lenses have about 5 different prescription areas that are blended into one lens. The placement of your eyes relative to the lenses has to be measured precisely, and it includes first adjusting the frames to fit your face. Where your pupil is in relation to the lens has to be perfect. Also, when I was picking out a frame, I was shown that some frames just won't work with progressive lenses (i.e. too small or wrong shape).

When my glasses were done, I wore them for a while and it turned out my prescription needed to be changed a bit so they started over with measuring to make new lenses. My optometrist had recommended the business I went to since they have a guarantee that you will end up with glasses that work and you that like. It took about 2 months (and about 6 trips) for me to get a pair of properly fitting progressives!

I imagine it would be a great place to get standard eye glass prescriptions done, but I've found out first-hand progressives are tricky to fit correctly.

I go to the eye doctor to get my reading glasses. Dollar Tree glasses don't work for me.

I have progressives also, and I don't think I'd ever try getting them from one of those cheap online places.  It looks tempting, but I've read reviews about trouble people have had and it seems more hassle than it's worth.  I also pay more getting them from where I have my eyes checked, but I've tried getting them from local places cheaper and had all kinds of problems with them.  I've never (knock on wood) had to go back and have anything readjusted when getting them from my eye doctor.

I have been in progressives for a number of years now and I am on my third pair.  I had one pair that weren't made exactly right the other two were fine.  They did a lot of measuring for them and this last pair the measuring was done with a scope connected to a computer.  They've changed the fields of vision for progressives so the closeup parts are on the sides and the outside  bottom of the lenses and the distance goes all the way to the bottom in the center of the lense.  Making them that way is supposed to help with computer screens and that's what I do 40 hours a week for work.  I can't imagine getting them right with mail order lenses.  I always wait for a good sale, I usually start getting notices and coupons after I've had my glasses for about a year and they continue until I go back.  My last pair was $360.00 for the glasses and the exam was $120.00.  I could've gotten the exam for less but I got the computer imagery for the inside of my eyes rather than the drops to dilate them.  I hate those drops, it seems to take so long for my eyes to get back right again.

You can also get computer glasses, which work better than the progressives.  I also am at the computer most of the time at work, and also a lot at home.  The computer glasses have the distance part at the top so when you're looking at the screen you see clear, but if you want to look distances, you have to look through the top (which is a lot  less uncomfortable than putting your head up to look at the screen with the progressives.  To be fair, though, I haven't had new progressives in a  couple years, so I don't know about the new way you say they do them now.
