Some of you know my baby Squeakers just died. Today on the way to my house, my grandmother stopped at a sale to look for a statue for my baby's grave. When she stopped there she met the man running the sale and told him how I lost my baby and he told her he had a few kittens on the property and if we wanted to come out and see if we could catch them, we could take them. So we did.

And here's who I caught behind the air conditioner. I've called two shelters to see if they would take the others if I could catch them, since they were under the deck today.

He seems alright, no fleas, there is a patch on his leg here, it had something matted on it and when I took it off there was a bare patch of skin underneath, hoping his fur grows back in there.

So I'm not sure how old he is. He's a wobbly walker and his teeth are coming in. I've got some KMR to feed him, but I don't know how much or how often. I've never had one this young before. Is he old enough to go to the bathroom on his own? I know young kittens need to be stimulated to go.

This is so similar to how I rescued my Squeakers...it's almost like...a sign or something. God I miss him...but if I can help this little guy out maybe I won't feel so alone.

He seems pretty small, perhaps 4, not 6.  You can stimulate him, to be on the safe side. Im sure it will feel nice for him, if nothhing else. Establishing you as his mom.   :)

But have also a litter, in a shallow pan, non clumping.

Kmr or goat milk, important on tummy head up, so much he wants, say every three hours (but take your 6 night hours).  so you are on the safe side.

Was there no mom with them? did she hided without no try to defend them, or are they totally orphans?

Besides, consider if and when you catch the bros and sisters, have adopt another one too. Most cats prefer to have company, especially if it is a friend. Which littermates usually are.  They will also foster each other, for example when biting each other, they yell and teach this way to take it easy.   :)

We have splendid articles about taking care of orphans here above our subforum.

Another excellent site is www.kitten-rescue.com.

You will surely find ideas and inspiration there.

Good luck!

Apparently people dump their kittens on this poor old man's land and he's not really well enough to care for them. I really want to try to catch the other two. They can't be from the same litter, this one is tiny, the black and white one is twice his size and the third one looks at least a few months old. I suspect they are just poor dump offs, because it's a convenient rural area to do so.

I do want to go back for another shot at the older skittish ones. It's wet and cold out here right now poor things.

So I did get him to pee...I'll confess that was a little weird...but I think it made him feel better.

I can't get this little guy to poop. Am I doing something wrong? Today is the third day. He'll pee every time but no poop. And he meows and squirms when I take him to the bathroom. I always sit him in the litter box first to see if he can go on his own but no luck. He's drinking a lot of powder KMR, he's got a great appetite. He doesn't seem bloated or uncomfortable or anything, but surely he needs to go?

His mother would lick his anus until he pooped. A warm wet washcloth rubbed gently on his bum should do the trick. If he was very hungry when you got him, it may take some time for his system to kick in. If he's not complaining or bloated yet, he's probably OK, though.

Oh, I have been doing that and that's been making him pee...but no poop.

I think he must be close to being able to use his litter box..since he peed on me tonight.

You are now officially his mama! Aren't you glad you don't have to clean him like she would. :)

He is awfully young, it could be he just doesn't get it yet. You can buy a product called Kitten Attract. The smell tells them "go here." and it does work. It is also non-clumpable, so if he eats it (as kittens will), it won't hurt him. It is expensive, so you can sprinkle it on his regular non-clumping litter. I use the whole bag in the box, just because I only ever needed to use one bag and they got the idea.

Yes...yes I am. Still no poop, but I called the vet and they said to give it a few more days, they couldn't give him an enema at this age anyway. He seems really tiny for his age, is he?

What about weaning? I'm going with Monday as the four week mark. Is that a good time to start offering wet food?

Yes, you can begin so slowely then.  But do continue parallelly with the kmr.

Good luck!
