We started with 1 spayed, declawed female from a shelter...added 2 more spayed declawed females from a shelter - all are strictly indoor cats around 8 yrs old. Adopted an abandoned female kitten (and had her spayed) about 6 months ago - everybody is getting along great. Now, we are thinking about adding a stray neutered male to the family.  It's a long story but he has been hanging around our business for years. We started feeding him, gave him a bed and now he sits on our lap and is very affectionate.  I would love to bring him home but don't want to upset our "girls".  He's been an "outdoor" cat all his life (he's at least 5 yrs old) and I don't know how he will react to becoming an "indoor cat".  Also, not sure how he will be with the 4 females we have.  He's not aggressive with us but loves to chase birds and kill mice in the yard.  Do I bring him home or continue caring for him at our place of business? It breaks my heart to leave him there every night.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Do you genuinely have the room? If so, I would give it a try. Make sure he's cleared by the vet (shots, parasites). I'd also get a combo test for FIV and FELV if those haven't been done. If you don't have the room, is there a way you can let him inside at your business? He might be perfectly content there.

Thank you for helping him (and all of them)

Consider yourself a very lucky multi cat owner, since it's usually the females who have issues when bringing in someone new!

Females dominate males, this is natural for the males and is accepting easily.

It's the girls who will tend to battle for the top spot in the home, so you got lucky as they obviously all have their ranks intact easily.

I doubt there will be any issues with bringing home this boy, and he will be so much safer and happy!

Yeah.  He IS already neutered, so he will adapt, and accept the ladies´ leadership.

And probably also - be accepted by them.

If he were an intact tom, it could be another question.  A docile tom would also behave himself, but a dominant, territorial tom is another matter. Such a tom must be neutered and several weeks must go by before you even think to try to introduce him...

As said, here you shouldnt have any big problems.  Unless the ladies choose to be mean to him, using him as "the boy for beating up".

Good luck!
