About a week ago we rescued a 10 week old Maine Coon male kitten. He is wonderful and has really fit into our family of 3 kids, 2 cats, (both 13), and three dogs.

The day we got "Bono" he was released from the vet with a case of "Kennel Cough", we were given an antibiotic. It seemed to not help so we were almost reluctantly given Doxycyclene Suspension, 0.1 ml twice a say. Bono seems to be a little too tired and not as playful as a kitten should be and now "Snickers" our 13 year old cat seems very catatonic, vomiting and just not herself. The vet who handled Bono's care is closed today, Not to be a cheapskate, but should we spend hundreds of dollars and take Snickers to an emergency vet today, who will be a new vet for all? Do these symptoms sound life threatening? Or does this sound like it can wait til tomorrow?

Thanks!

Kennel cough is really contagious within animals, you're right to be concerned. Were you keeping Bono quarantined from the other animals? Maybe you could call an emergency vet number and ask what they think. I can call my vet even on a weekend and he'll tell me whether or not I should bring him in or wait until morning, does yours do that?

Here, maybe read this and see what you think about how sick they are.

I hope this helps you.

Is Snickers eating and drinking at all? After a week Bono should be feeling better then he sounds.  Snickers being older I would worry if not taking in food or water and if not moving at all I would say go to er.  If more just sickly but still interested in food and water I would hold off at moment and keep eye on them all.

If Bonos vet is with a shelter you may need to take Snickers into a reg vet practice. Do you know if Bono was Felv/Fiv tested?  bring any records you have if you go to any vet for all the cats to help them rule out anything.

Thanks for responding! We are currently on hold to speak with the emergency vet. Unfortunately the treating vet was new to us since they were caring for Bono and the rescue we got him from, so unfortunately we had no emergency numbers. The weird thing is , Snickers the 13 yr old has no cough or symptoms other than being a catatonic zombie with big pupils and looks in a daze.

That sounds like he should go in if totally not moving.  Could be something totally unrelated to Bono.

Thanks all for trying to help, Unfortunately it was too late. Snickers had hypothyroid, bad ulcers on tongue, blood in urine, bad liver and bad kidneys. She was very ill. All of this was totally unrelated to our new cat Bono.

We did the humane thing and we put her down. We will enjoy Bono! Best of luck to all! God Bless!

Rip Snickers.  So glad you were able to get her in tonight and not have her suffer.  I know how hard it is to make that choice.  Hugs to you and your family.

Isn't it amazing how well they can hide illness from us?
