I don't really feed table food so much. I actually offered the cat some goat milk that I was drinking (a bit on my finger) and she was not interested at all. She loves the smell of bacon and eggs though, haha.

I guess if I do give table food, it's usually a bit of cooked eggs. Very rare. She does get a raw egg yolk every other week.

Since I feed raw now, I just give her table foods that are raw.

I think raw meat, or baked meat is fine. Plain yogurt too if your cat likes it.

The only kind of table food my cats get is plain, cooked meat/fish/poultry.  Chicken is the main one since they both really like it.  Just last night, Casper practically climbed into my lap for the roast chicken I was eating.  Not something he usually does, but I do have to say that the chicken came out particularly good lol.  He must have been able to tell from how good it smelled :)

They also get some raw food while I'm cooking at times thrown to them, which both enjoy.

Sometimes, my partner will allow them to lick the left over yolk from soft cooked eggs from the plate when he's done.  Only when I'm not home because I don't really like him doing it.  I give them a raw egg yolk to split, now and then but I don't consider that a table scrap.

Infrequently, a tablespoon of milk for Casper (Cocoa doesn't like it).

That's about it.  I'd never give them any kind of human "snack" food at all.  I'll let them smell anything we're eating if they want to, they are very interested in lots of things we eat, but usually they will walk away from it once they have their curiosity satisfied.  Thankfully they have little interest in anything other than the proteins mentioned above.

Raw egg yolks are good for cats. Great nutrition and the lecithin helps dissolve the fat that binds hairballs together.

I do not generally make a regular habit of  feeding "people food" to my cats.

It's a very rare treat when I do, and even then it's in very small amounts.

A few things I allow them to indulge in:

a bite of bacon

a sliver of ham (not sausage)

a teaspoon of unflavored yogurt

a drop of beer (off my finger, Loki only - because he's weird)

a few shreds of cheddar or parmesan cheese

a saucer of tuna juice (water, not oil)

I also feed a raw diet, so raw eggs are included, though they seem to prefer them topped with benito flakes or mixed with tuna juice.

I have a source for raw milk, so they will occasionally get a little of that.  The general rule about not feeding cats pasteurized milk is because of the high lactose.  However, raw milk has enzymes that have not been cooked out which balance the lactose and help in its digestion.

I try to stay away from anything with sugar or carbs.  No fruits, bread, or chips.  Nothing with sweeteners; no sugar, xylitol, sorbitol, aspartame, saccharine, stevia, sucrose, sucralose, honey... none of that.

I'm pretty sure they still love me, though.

I'm sure it has nothing to do with the fresh, homegrown catnip...  no no, not at all.

Hi everyone,
When talking about table food for cats, I thought one referred to cooked , or processed foods. The type of food people eat. I hear any type of plain meat is ok for cats. But, things like milk products cause anemia in adult cats.
Some spices are not good. Some vegetable must be avoided. Explore the web and post :

Hi again, I hope this thread is up and continues because my lit'l kittie 19 mths. has developed some sensitivity to raw meat. She can only tolerate 1 tablespoon of finely chopped raw chicken . She was doing ok eating 4-5 tbls. Before Her 2nd treatment of Revolution*TM. the side effects can include GI upset. She loves to eat. Just it did not stay down. I tried 1 teaspoon of ground beef, lit'l girl's belly really yak- ed that up. Instantly.
So, I am giving cooked meats.
I am going to read other post regarding intro to raw and good nutrition .

Anyway table food like my chicken spaghetti , beef stew, raisin bran muffins. Stuff like that has been given since she just threw -up the raw. Now, my 3 yr. old. Grabs the raw off the counter. And jaws (chows) down.

Could it just be side effects of Revolution? Also, many of us use human probiotics when our cats have GI upset. Personally my cat has never had any GI issues so I can't help too much but I am sure other members out there can. :)

I wouldn't give pre-ground beef, personally. I forgot the reason (just woke up) but it's better if you grinded it yourself (someone please elaborate.)

Spaghetti, stews, and raisin muffins- I'd be super weary too... Spaghetti and stews often use seasonings, garlic, and onions which are toxic to cats. Grapes are toxic to dogs so I wouldn't feel safe feeding those to my cat too.

I also just wanted to mention that certain cats are very sensitive to how the meat was raised. I know there is one member out there who's cat didn't tolerate regular beef but if it was grass-fed the cat did.

Hi, yeah. I'm just a wits-end with the kittie food. I was going to start baby food. But read that it is not nutritional for cats. She can tolerate cooked meats. I just thought they were bland. However, everyone with experience here has warned against seasoning. I will stick with the bland diet of domestic cooked chicken, eggs, and advance slowly to organ meats. Fish is very hard to get but a balanced diet is what I hope to abstain.

Assul, are you balancing the meat with a supplement?

The reason you do not buy ground meat from a grocery store is because the bacteria that exists on the outside of the meat gets drug into it when ground if not thoroughly washed first. Also, supplements other than just calcium need to be added since the ground meat allows for more oxidation.

Fish is not really a good diet for cats so there's no worry if you can find it or not!

Where are you from? I feed raw, but the proteins I give her are chicken, turkey, mutton (sheep), duck, and rabbit. I am moving soon and will also have access to goat, so I might be putting that into my rotation soon.

Unfortunately I don't have experience with a cooked diet. However, what I would do is put your cat on a human probiotic and slowly wean off of cooked meat and re-introduce raw meat. Have you tried baking the meat so most of the surface is cooked? Start really slow, especially if your cat has GI upset.

I wonder if your cat has an allergy to chicken?

You are correct that baby food- although good for those times when your cat doesn't eat, it's not nutritionally balanced. So is just plain baked and raw muscle meat though. The heating process depletes taurine, which is a necessity for cats.

I hope someone can help you, maybe you can start your own thread so more people can help you.

Hi,
I am going shopping in the meat dept. I want to try the raw organ meats. Maybe beef liver. Because someone suggested my Awssul might be allergic to the raw chicken, cause she could not keep it "down. I had mentioned she does ok. With raw chicken in small 2-3 tbls. But more than that is not tolerated.
ALSO, What is probiotic?
Is it found in the pharmacy or what. :( ?

Liver is just rich in general. I would take it very slow.

Probiotics are basically beneficial bacteria that help the GI track. You can find them at a health food store or a pharmacy (depending). They are usually in a fridge. You can also order them online. After you get them though keep it stored in the fridge.
