Hello,

I just adopted a 2 day old kitten on Thursday - someone who shops at the pet store i work at found it on the ground and brought it in! Since then I've been feeding it every three hours exactly with about 2-5mL or so of KMR, and rubbing its anal/genital area with a damp warm towel right after. it always pees when i do this, but only once (yesterday) it pooped - apparently its normal for them to only poop once a day or less. however, today i just saw that it pooped all over the box by itself (and peed as well). can i count on this? do i have to still continue rubbing its anal area after every feeding, now that we know it may be able to poop by itself? i know its very young but what does this mean?

Yes, do it. 1. You cant count this self will proceed.  2. It is surely something they need, this massage.

What if means she began soo early?  Possible she has a light diarrhea, so it comes out by itself.

Better a slight diarrhea than constipation, but do look out.

You seem to do it very well, but you know sites and pages about handrearing orphans?

There is one good article here on our subforum (on the side of it)

another one is www.kitten-rescue.com

Good luck!

As usual I completely agree with Stefan Z.  You must keep doing it.  Also, I am not sure how long passed between you massaging and the pee and poop, but it sometimes won't happen right away but happens a little later.

Good luck!!
