Cats both throw up

Can someone please tell me why  if one of our cats throws up usually right after eating,say its breakfast,   a couple of minutes later the other cat decides to do the same  I have noticed this on three occasions. The cats are sisters.

Sorry your cats are sick.  Without additional information, it is hard to say why one cat does what the other cat.

My first thought is the food, there is something in the food that neither of them like/are allergic to.  Is it always the same cat who throws up first, and the same cat who throws up second?

They both may have a genetic/physiological problem.

How old are they?  When did this behavior start (how long has it been going on)?  What food do you feed them (I see that you are in Scotland.)  Have you taken them to the vet; we're not vets here, so you must first rule out a medical issue.

Hi Ritz, thank you for your reply . they are  9 months old. I don't think its their food that is the problem this has only happened three times Its like if one of them pukes up her breakfast the other just has to do the same  weird or what.

Vomiting is very rarely behavioral. I would look to some other reason, the food itself or how long it's been since they've last eaten or how quickly they eat. You mentioned breakfast which is a frequent time for vomiting since it's usually the longest period of time without eating for most schedule fed cats. Some cats get stomach acid build-up if they go too long between meals. Some cats eat too fast and regurgitate their food.

Are they vomiting food or just liquid?

It could be. I would try a couple of things. One, depending on how often you feed, I would try to add another meal and reduce each meal accordingly (so they are getting the same amount spread over more meals). Since you mentioned breakfast twice, I would try to cut the time between the last meal before bed and breakfast. Some cats get stomach acid build-up if they go too long without food. If they are still eating too fast, then I would serve each meal in two portions with a couple of minutes in between to slow down their eating.

If you try all these things and they're still vomiting, then start looking for a different cause. Good luck.

My Polly tends to throw up shortly after eating due to IBD. The things that helped her was changing to a diet free of grains, fruits or vegetables and giving both cats smaller portions to slow down her eating. My vet also suggested putting ping pong balls in her food, but when I tried it, she didn't want to eat.

It looks like the OP has had some great responses, and I don't have anything specific to add.

But, off topic, I had to say that my name is Polly, and I've never known of a cat named Polly. Do you have a picture of her?
