You all know I weigh daily then average 7 days at a time to get my current weight...but I still celebrate one day lows :)  Have another one this morning that is just an awesome number for me.  I think it's my birthday present to myself <chuckle>.  It certainly helps remind me why I'll stay on my plan despite this day when I tend to treat myself..lol.

Happy Birthday to all my fellow Leo's out there!

Oh, I forgot to answer the vitamin question. I don't take a multivitamin (but want to), but I do take vitamin D (I eat a lot of cheese, so I'm getting the calcium, but not the D), CoQ10, and Probiotic pearls. The last two are to help control my stomach condition.

Pat -- that's great news! I think your system might work for me, too. Happy Birthday to you and the other Leos! What a great birthday present!

My "Super Food" for the week is BRAZIL NUTS. I am pretty sure that what I am about to tell you is factual however feel free to look them up yourselves if you are interested.
They are the richest source of mineral selenium. Selenium aids in the protection against heart disease, reduces the risk of breast cancer, prostate cancer and other cancers. It's good for building the immune system and helps maintain the proper functioning of the thyroid. It helps convert thyroid hormones from their inactive form to an active form. Good news for dieters!! All you need to consume is 2 Brazil nuts a day that = approx 52 calories. No more than 4 or they can build toxic levels of the mineral in your body.
I have multivitamins each day plus my 2 Brazil nuts as a snack:)

Happy Birthday, Pat!!!!

I take vitamin C, D, Calcium and a multivitamin. I always remember the D. The rest I'm not so good at.

I didn't know that you could have too many Brazil nuts. You don't see them that often around here. Occasionally I do see them n a container of mixed nuts.

I like the idea about learning more about Super foods, Tamela. :bigthumb: I think we should do that in addition to the regular challenge. :)

Anyone want to volunteered come up with a new challenge for Friday? If not, I have a few ideas. :)

Congrats to everyone on their losses.

Pat, I eat out normally n the weekends and even though I try to make smarter choices it definitely sets me back. On Saturday I had something and said "whoa, that's salty". I couldn't drink enough water after. I gained 5 pounds from that meal.

Happy Birthday to all my fellow Leo's out there!

  Aug. 1st.

The reason I asked about vitamins was because I was thinking about the discussion about cravings.  I thought to myself, if I'm taking my vitamins like I should, would my cravings go down?

I have some Kale in my 'fridge, I think it's supposed to be a "superfood"... anyone got any ideas on how to fix it up?  To me it's like glorified cabbage.

Thanks for the Leo birthday wishes, Pat! Belated happy birthday to you! My b/day is tomorrow, 7/30.

And to tie birthdays in with dieting...DH and I went out to celebrate on Saturday. We ate the very same dish, but he came down with a mild case of food poisoning (must try that sometime--looks like a FABULOUS way to lose weight!
).  It hit while we were looking for my birthday gift in a jewelry store, so we scrapped our birthday plans, and went to Wegman's for a slice of cake. (They sell their chocolate cake by the slice.) I just had a craving for a birthday treat, but didn't want the whole cake sitting around. I took 3 bites, and pushed it away. He had a few bites, and  insisted on taking it home. I had 2 bites yesterday; still not crazy about sweets now (YES!!!!). I'm taking 2 days off for my birthday to treat myself, and had a craving for it this evening, in place of my sugar-free pudding. I did finish it, but it did seem awfully sweet. I don't want any more cake! I felt a bit guilty eating it, but DH said that I deserve it--it's my "birthday" (really not!).

Since I was off today, I spent the morning shopping for a treat. I bought very little, but enjoyed my 3.5 hour fast walk! That was my exercise for today.

I haven't been on the exercise bike for over a week. I hate the thing. I have been walking, though, to make up for it, which seems to work just as well, and I really enjoy it. I still walk on my lunch hour, and take a very fast 20-minute walk inside the house. I just walk through each room at a fast pace, and jog a little. The cats watch me. There's usually one in each room, waiting for my next lap! I feel as if they should be handing me cups of Gatorade each time I pass!

As I was at home today, I spent the entire afternoon and evening cleaning out closets. I don't know if that's considered exercise, but I was on my feet, bending, lifting and stretching for hours.

Happy Birthday Pat and MargeCat. You go eat your treats MargeCat and enjoy them. If you can't eat your own birthday cake then what's the point?
Hope you both have wonderful days:)

Happy Birthday, Pat and MargeCat!

I take a multi-vitamin every day. Centrum Silver (since I'm an old fart). Also  1,200 mg of calcium and 3,000 IU of Vitamin D. The only time I really did notice a decreased craving was when I was taking magnesium (I think it was 250 mg daily) when I first started taking Vitamin D. Magnesium was supposed to help combat any problems with constipation when you first start taking Vitamin D (it didn't help with that, but I did notice that I didn't seem to be craving chocolate). I did read somewhere that often a woman's craving for chocolate can be because of a magnesium deficiency....don't know how true that is.

I fully expect a weight gain this Friday.
It was bound to come, I guess. It wasn't a good weekend and Monday wasn't any better. But it's OK and I shall take my 50 lashes with a wet noodle. I gained four pounds since last Friday morning.

Rick took me out to breakfast on Friday morning, and then we went to Trader Joe's on Friday and I bought bagels. I dearly love bagels and they are so good. So I ate bagels over the weekend. Along with a ton of other stuff, including regular soda. Dear Richard went to Dunkin Donuts on Sunday, so I ate a couple donuts. And then yesterday, on the way back from Baltimore, we stopped at Maple Donuts and he bought a dozen donuts. This was after we had dinner at the Phillips crab house in Baltimore at Inner Harbor. It was not a good four days. At all. Combine my eating habits with my lack of walking on Saturday and only walking once on Friday, Sunday, and Monday, and well, you get the picture. Although we walked all over Inner Harbor on Monday. And like I said, I did manage to meet all of my Fitbit goals every day but Saturday.....on Saturday, the levels for all my goals just sat there.....like lead. Kind of like me on Saturday as I went from the bed to the couch and back.

The most I can even think about hoping for is a net loss of......nothing. In other words, if I get really lucky, I can drop the four pounds by Friday morning and have neither gained or lost. I don't see that happening.

Barbara, your feelings toward your exercise bike are exactly like my feelings for the elliptical. Honestly, I'd rather be dragged over hot coals! I hate that thing. You're walking, though, so you're doing something, and that's so important. I can imagine you walking through your house with the cats watching you and handing you Gatorade!
We live in a bi-level, so we have steps from the living room down to the front door, and then down to the basement. I've gone up and down those steps forever and ever and then some more. I also keep the treadmill on a 3.5 incline all the time (most of the reason for that, though, is because the treadmill is old and moving the incline all the time can make the incline motor stick, either at 0 or at 10%). Hang in there because you're doing very, very well!

I make kale soup, but i doubt that's what you want to do. I have seen recipes for kale salad and I know a lot of people make kale chips. I still have a lot of curly kale in my garden and I'm going to try making kale chips.

Thanks for the Leo birthday wishes, Pat! Belated happy birthday to you! My b/day is tomorrow, 7/30.
Happy Birthday a day late! :party4:

At least it sounds like you had a good time. :) :cross: for the same weight or maybe a little lower come Friday. :)

dejolane ... I'm keeping you in my prayers that it will work out for you.  :)

I fell again two Sundays ago so my dieting got off track because I couldn't walk enough to go to the grocery store or to cook.  So I have no idea where I am weight wise.  Since it's the 1st I'm restarting today as my knee is on the mend and I can get around some now.  I'll weigh in on Friday.  I know everyone said to use my own scales but I just don't trust them to be accurate.  So I'm going to weigh in on the scale in my apartment's work out room.  I'll deduct 1 lb for clothing and as long as I do the same thing consistantly I think it will be OK.

I'm also dealing with a lot of emotional stuff.  I'd rather not talk about the details but it's family related and it's extremely painful and emotional.  So far I've just be stuffing the feelings I have because I'm really not sure what else to do with them.  I'm not sure if I'm making the right decision.  But I think time will answer that for me.  My small inner voice will let me know soon enough.

I do want to ask one question to everyone ... and if you don't want to answer I understand.  If you have lived through long term abuse in your life and you never really dealt with it emotionally.  And now you think it could be a stumbling block to your weight loss ... what would you do?  Would you go back and dredge all that bad stuff up to deal with it or would you just try to make a clean break and try to move on?  Do you think you would be able to move on if you never dealt with it?  I'm talking about abuse in childhood that moved on to spousal abuse as an adult.  I feel like I'm at a crossroads here with this stuff and I'm not sure which way to go.  I think maybe I need to go see someone professionally ... :(

As for the vitamin question I'm on and have been on a 50,000 IU Vitamin D once a week suppliment I get from my doctor for several months.  She had the Vit D level checked in my blood work and they like you to be between 40 and 70 and I was a 10.  The Vit D deficiency is the reason for MANY of my health issues.  When you are not getting the Vit D you need you open yourself up to immune system disorders and osteoarthritis (irreversable) and this is the case for me.  I have really bad OA in my knees, hips, and shoulders.  I've seen the x-rays and the way the joints are supposed to be like a ball and a cup and fit together well but mine are like a ball and a wide lipped saucer and they don't fit together well at all.  This is part of it that can't be fixed.  But the immune system issue, which turned out to give me Ulcertative Colitus and Gutatte Psoriasis, can be helped.  So this mega dose of Vit D I've been on since January and within like two weeks of taking it I felt SOOO much better and my joints started being manageable pain.  I went off the 50,000 IU for two weeks and then my level dropped fast so now I'm back on it.  It's the D3 which is much better than the D2, or so my doctor tells me.  So I take that and I take calcium 600 mg a day wth 250 mg of magnesium.  I take the calcium and magnesium with food and not when I'm taking any other of my daily meds.  It's important to take the calcium with your food and with the magnesium so it cal help with absorption and if you take it with other meds or supps then the calcium won't be absorbed as well.  I also take a B-12 vit in the morning.  I take Align pro-biotics.  I'd prefer to get my pre and pro biotics from natural sources but they are all lactose derived and I'm lactose intolerant so I can't go that way.  I take Glucosimne and Condroitin too 1,500/1,200 mg respectively.  These are expensive, and I wish I could get by without them but I can't.  And that's all.  I don't take a daily multi-vitamin.  My doctor says I don't need it.

Weigh-in day! At least l think it's Friday ... l've been working so much overtime, l've lost track.

Anyway, this morning l weigh 184.6, for a weekly loss of 1.6lbs, and a total loss of 14lbs even.

Congrats Andrya! Good job!

As for me? I have a gain of 1.0 pound. I tried to get the pounds off that I had gained over the weekend, but couldn't get them all. Back to the drawing board.

Kittymommy, I'm really sorry, but I don't know what to say to you. Only you can truly answer that question. It sounds as though you're considering seeing a professional to help you.....it's a good idea. Yes, it will dredge all this stuff up for you and chances are, it will get ugly before it gets better. BUT....and this is a big but.....if it will help you in the long run, then it's well worth any pain you're going to go through. It sounds likes you're going through it anyway and maybe some professional expertise can help you get through it and then you'd be free, or at least in a better position to deal with things. (Told you I wouldn't be much help.

Good job Andrya! Winchester its good to keep going a marathon not a sprint as they say. :) I knew mine would go up with two weeks of bad eating and no activity. With my knee healing. So I'm at 345 now for an increase of 8.5lbs. Starting over again.

Good girl Andrya! Yay! It must be the whizz bang treadmill. Anyone who gets up at 3.30 am to exercise deserves weight loss. Good for you.

Winchester you had a good weekend with your family and we all deserve a little splurge every now and then. Then you had a terrible headache. Now you are back up on the wagon. I'm sure you will have a great week.;)

Kittymommy Im afraid I don't know the answer to your question. Seeing a professional would be a good idea I guess. You can always stop seeing them if its not helping you. I'm sending a big hug to you from Australia. I hope your knee heals well. Starting over again is good. We just have to keep going!

As for Tamela Tammat. Yes I was sneaky. I didn't want to post first!!! I gained 14 oz this week. It's what I lost last week. I'm happy with that though. I am staying about the same. I have been eating after my evening meal and that's not good but honestly apart from that I am eating the healthiest I have ever eaten in my life.
FANTASTIC WORK EVERYONE. :)
