I am jumping in.  279 and looking to get to 200. Topped out at 305 then got to 285 on own.  Got pregnant and dropped another 5 or so lbs due to morning sickness.  I just lost my baby and would like to go down vs up now as it is a emotional state and do not want to turn to eating.

Going to ease into it as can't walk much at moment due to pain/... but plan to start once pain subsides.  I did make it to the store today.  Got few things we needed and a heating pad.
Keep up the good work.I too am trying to lose weight to go out and buy new jeans. I now weigh 208.I want to get back to 135 and I know it will take time.

So sorry you lost your baby.

Today is 1 month since I started my diet!  I've been a good girl!!!

I didn't use the exercise bike today, but did walk for 45 minutes at lunch; ate a small dinner at Wegmans, then walked some of it off for 40 minutes; then took a brisk, 20 minute walk around the inside of my house (too hot outside!) for exercise.

I think I've lost up to 10lbs so far (I have no scale).  My goal is 10-15 by July 31st; that's my estimate of the window for a dress size.  That's the criteria I used back in the '90's when I had the mega-weight drop. My goals is to lose 1 dress size by 7/31.

Today, I wore one of my old skirts, with a elastic waist. It never was tight, but today, it was in danger of falling off. Luckily, my underpants, being t-shirt cotton fabric, made the gauzy cotton skirt cling to it over my behind! I had to pinch in the waist in 2 places with safety pins! I have been trying to shrink some of my clothes for the past 2 weeks, as they were loose before, but now look awful.

Last week, I was eyeing my former very small size dresses in the store, thinking, "Hmmm. I think I could get into some of these."

I wonder what I could come up with to take on my Saturday job with me so I wouldn't be tempted to go by McDonalds for breakfast.  I'd need something for breakfast and then also a snack or lite lunch.  I'd need it to be portable and easily eaten in the car and something I wouldn't have to refrigerate.  I've been thinking maybe I could do some type of premade wrap with hummus and some veggies that wouldn't get soggy if not refrigerated.  Any suggestions?
Hmmmm, about the only thing I ever eat for breakfast and morning snacks is Granny Smith apples, so I'm not much help. How about some dried fruit? If you have a small chilled container, you could take a few cheese cubes and they should stay OK for the morning. Or some granola? I like your idea of hummus, but not sure how it holds over.

My DH bought a very small ice chest type lunch container and he also has those small bottles of liquid that you can freeze (I'm having a middle-aged moment and can't remember what they're called...sorry). He puts them in the freezer at night and they're solid by morning. That way, he can take baby carrots, celery sticks, some yogurt, things like that. A lot of times, he'll put leftovers from the night before in his lunch box, too. He usually goes out to his truck for his lunch (so he can text with me) and, by putting a large pad over his lunch container, it's still cold by his lunch time at 12:00. I don't know if that would help you. We also have small bottles of water that he freezes overnight to drink during work the next day.

Welcome!
I'm so sorry about your baby. But I'm very glad to see you in the thread and can understand that you don't want to use food to soothe your pain.
That's a smart decision. Take your time, do what you can do....it will be OK in time for you. I continue to keep you in my thoughts.

at you with your skirts! Yesterday I was wearing a pair of capris that used to be pretty tight. Well, I was in the restroom and unbuttoned my pants and.....they just slid to the floor! That's a good thing! One of my co-workers told me that I have "droopy drawers". And I just told dear Richard this morning that I think I need some new underwear....and he agreed! Off to the mall this weekend.

My biggest thing is that I'm between sizes right now. I have no butt, never did, probably from all that walking. And my legs aren't too bad, again from walking. But my fat pants (my fat pants roam from 10 to 12, depending on the cut) are getting seriously loose and my regular pants just aren't right yet. They're still a little too tight around my waist. I normally wear a size 8, but haven't been able to get into them comfortably since last fall. And they're still way too tight. So I still have quite a ways to go. And I have serious "droopy drawers"  issues with my fat pants. Even my jeans aren't tight anymore. I'm not complaining; I know that's a good thing.

My sizes aren't that great. Meaning that I can lose 20 pounds and still not drop a size. It takes more like 30 pounds for me to drop into a smaller size. I don't know why. But that's the way it is for me. I'm about 5'4", so maybe it's because I'm short. That's why I've spent so much time in between sizes, I think. Maybe I should try to do some exercises for core strengthening or for my waist. But I'm deathly afraid of messing up my legs again.

Congrats with being good for the whole month!

I had to think about breakfast and snack foods for myself as a teacher because lunch is so late in my day, and they stayed in my desk (not a fridge).  Here are some things I came up with:

1.  Nuts -- particularly almonds.  They're pretty dense, which means I didn't have to eat a lot and got filled up fast.

2.  Those little packages of baby carrots.  I'm pretty sure they're fine out of the refrigerator for awhile.

3.  Celery -- ditto -- maybe add some peanut butter or cheese

4.  Crackers -- obviously, be careful on which crackers.  I liked the Light Rye crispbread (I also love Triscuits with cream cheese, but they're not so great for weight loss
)

5.  Dried fruit

6.  Trail mix -- to be honest, I'd like to create one that's mostly nuts and dried fruit.

That's all I can remember at the moment.

Good luck everyone!  Kittymommy - thank you for sharing your story.  I have an aunt who is quite large (I have no idea what she actually weighs) and there are so many things she can't do because of her weight.  She's been making progress.  My mom keeps telling me I'm going to end up like her, and while I doubt that (neither my eating habits nor my exercise habits are quite as bad as hers were -- they need work, but she ONLY ate fast food and had an office job where she sat all the time.  I never eat fast food, but I do eat convenience home foods (ramen, macaroni & cheese, etc.) and I walk a lot -- not exercise walking, but still walking -- as a teacher), I do know that I need to get my weight back under control.  Because I'm very small-boned, even a "normal-looking" weight on paper is too much, especially since none of it is muscle.  Anyway, I've been noticing joint issues, too, and that's one of the reasons I want to lose weight.

If you are going to drive through McDonald's consider getting their new egg white sandwich or the oatmeal. If you live near a Dunkin Donuts, the egg white flatbreads are not a bad option.

hummus and veggies, fruit salad, etc all make good snacks. A chickpea salad woudl also be good.

I was between 14 and 16, but am comfortably in 14 now. Having said that, there is no consistency in women's clothing sizes and I have a pair of size 16 jeans that fit better than some of my 14's (smaller) and I have a pair of size 10 shorts I can fit into, no problem. I swear, saying "yay, I can fit into X size" doesn't mean much because they are all so different!

My stomach is always the biggest problem. It's very hard for me to lose there and it is one of the last places I lose, I swear.

Some very good options there!

I've already completed the challenge but I am continuing to drink my water.

I'm frustrated though because we went out to eat Sunday at a place we had never been before. Not only did I gain 3 pounds from that one meal, I was so swollen (hands, undereyes, etc,) the next morning that I couldn't even get my rings on and they are normally loose! I swear that in addition to being salty there was MSG in there. I didn't want my leftovers and Aaron had them and after he felt liek his heart was racing, which happens to him with MSG. :hmm: I am having a real hard time getting the weight off too! :hmm:

We are all using our own approach to losing weight, but I wanted to share a link to a documentary project I am supporting:   It features at least one gentleman whose work I am familiar with and refer others to - Gary Taubes.

I am so sorry for your loss. I found it very hard to work with my patients who were/or just had, suffered this kind of loss. (retired high risk labor and delivery RN)

I know I eat differently than many here, but if it were me, this is what I'd do..lol.  I love tins of smoked oysters, and find 1 tin with a couple of celery sticks makes a good small lunch.  I also love a brand of jerky made without sugars - Luther's, or you can make your own with one of the recipes on the net (I use liquid smoke, garlic and pepper to get flavor w/out using sugars), and I love jerky with raw veggies for an on the road meal.
For breakfast that you can eat in the car - I make quiche muffins, you can make them ahead, and grab one, nuke it to warm and go..just have some handwipes in the car for after..lol.  I also like what I call meat rollups - large romaine leaf, smear with a bit of mustard or teense of mayo, slice of cheese, slice of roast beef or turkey, roll up..easey peasey to eat on the road.
For lunch, you could take some cut up lettuce, celery, scallion - don't think this would spoil over a couple of hours, a tin of tuna, and a doesn't need refrigeration bottle of newman's own olive oil and vinegar dressing..works really well on the tuna as a salad dressing.

I'm trying my best to cut out snacks during the day . Maybe just some fruit would do.I just hope when I go back to the doctors next month ,he would say I lost more weight. I'm losing this weight for myself and not to prove it to anyone.

l'm so very sorry for your loss catsallaround

l haven't been on here much - l don't think l even weighed in last Friday. l'm working 72 hour weeks to pay for the shmancy treadmill, which hasn't arrived yet. On my workdays l walk between 6000 and 10,000 steps, so it's better exercise than l get at home

l'm not working Friday so l'll remember to weigh in.

lt sounds like everyone has been doing a great job with their weight loss
  Congratulations to all.

Yesterday afternoon I was so hungry I could have eaten two meals and it felt like I still wouldn't have felt full.  But I stayed on track and then later on I had plenty of engery to do some cleaning, so I felt good about that.  Today that panicked feeling I get when I'm not eating all the time has lessened some so I'm grateful, hopefully it will continue to lessen.  I'm weighing actually tonight and I hope that's OK.  I have five scales in my apartment three I can't use because they don't go past 300 lbs, two of the others I can never get to give me a consistent weight.  I think they are broken.  So I'm going to start weighing in the work out room at my apartment.  It's one of those old school scales with the weights on top and you slide the weight things over and wait for the metal bar to fall in the right spot.  I think this will be good for me to weigh in this way because A it will give me a consistently accurate weight and B it will make me go to the work out room once a week.  Eventually I may feel comfortable enough in this room to actually work out.  I hope.  :)  Anyway, so when I give my number tomorrow keep in mind it's not a full week for me and it will be with my clothes and shoes on.  :)

I have to ask a question here; Is your scale friendly to you ? Do you really trust it ?  I trust my doctors more than mine.

I know even when I am over the weight limit my scale has still read 305.  And I have weighed the puppy so I have gotten it to read 345 at times. I had to get on a glass scale at drs and was terrified it would crack.  I got on slowly!!!!

My mom has one of those scales that has the dial and it would jsut go past the 250 and back to say 50 so I knew I was 300.  That scale she has is about 15 years old lol. She was told to buy it to make sure she did NOT LOSE to much weight..
