I'm caring for a feral male with an URI.  It's pretty pronounced, and I believe his appetite has been impaired.  I purchased lysine 1000 mg. tablets, but would need a sense of how much to give him.  He's got a larger frame, but couldn't be more than 7 or 8 lbs. soaking wet.

Any recommendations on dosing?

I'm sorry I haven't the faintest clue.  Someone will come along with some info, though.

I just wanted to tell you "thanks" for helping him.

Oh, it's my pleasure.  Yesterday, he posed and preened for us in the dead-end street next to my house.  My indoor kitty, Gary, watched him with great interest, as he rolled in the grass, bathed, and took ostentatiously unconcerned poses.  He's a joy to watch.

I looked around on the internet and it said that during very bad flare ups you can give 1000mg per day.  Split the dose in two, so 500 mg in the morning and 500 mg in the evening mixed with food.  If the flare up is moderate you can drop the dose to 500 mg per day, with 250 in the morning and 250mg in the evening.  Once the URI is better, you can continue giving a daily maintenance dose of 250 mg total per day.

I just checked the Viralyis lysine that my Jake takes.  I give him one scoop which is 500mg each day in his morning food.  When he has a flare up, I have him one scoop (500mg) 2x a day.
