Sassy is a 9 month old sweet girl :) She was spayed on Tuesday. We brought her home on Wednesday and after 12 hours of chasing her and much aggravation we got her cone on her. When I came home this morning, somehow, she escaped her cone of shame! I have caught her licking her incision area a few times but if i nudge her she will stop. The vet has me TERRIFIED that if she does not keep her cone on for at least 7-10 days she will continually lick and end up with an infection. I am terrified to traumatize her by chasing her for another 6 hours to get her cone back on. I am also scared to death that she is going to harm herself even more. Does anyone have experience with their cat refusing to wear her cone?  Did anyone not even bother with the cone after a spay and still had a good outcome? I'm a first time kitty mommy and just want to do whats best for her and make her happy
Thanks so much

As I understand, many manages without the cone.  But I suppose it depends also on what sewing the vet did.   If if is seving which dont manage any licking...  What thread used the vet?  Steel thread, so you must go back to remove it, or a self dissolving thread?

How is her wound looking now, two days after? Seems it to heal ok?

If you must chase her several hours, I suspect she manages OK!?

If it is healing oK, and she doesnt lick much, you can perhaps let it be.

I mean, stressing her out has also drawbacks, especielly if you must chase her and grab by force...

Another alternative to this elisabethanian collar (e-collar, e-cone), is to set up a sock on her.

Works usually quite nicely.

If she is slim, you can use a sport sock.  Make holes for rear end, legs, head of course.

Is she is bigger, try to find something else...

Keep reporting!

Good luck!

The vet used dissolvable stitches internally and suture qlue externally. Today will make 48 hours since surgery and her incesion site has a clearish dried discharge and the area looks like a cut on your hand as it heals.
