My 14 yr old marmelade suddenly started moving his headnlike an avoidence type move sort of like what you look like before sneezing. Its not like a full body seizure just head. His head raises up slowly twitches amd then it stops and it happens several times. Recently got worse to where it looks like he is having tiny stroke. His little tongue stuck out because it happened while grooming himseelf once. Took him a few seconds to "come back". No movent in body at all. It seems to happen when he is laying down and occasionally when upright. Had some sneezing prior so I was hoping just infection but temp normal vet took blood sample. Ears eyes throat look fine. He's eating drinking just fine I just worry he's in pain or scared. No idea what to do because he just doesn't seem sick enough to put down. Hes laying here with ke now sleeping just fine. Today rolled around fun then when napping this starts. Any thoughts. Thanks I know this is mild to other issues but I am sick over him being unwell.

Hi and welcome to TCS. Sorry to hear that your kitty is having issues. I don't know what could be causing these tremors. Hopefully the bloodwork will give you some answers. I too wouldn't consider putting him down either unless I knew or strongly suspected he was in pain.

Didn't the Vet offer any suggestions as to what might be causing this?  Could it be dementia?  At 14, I guess that would be possible?  If it were a stoke, his gait would probably be affected, he would walk in circles that type of thing.

If he were in pain,he would probably withdraw from you...hide away in the closet, that type of thing.  Is he doing anything out of the ordinary other than what you have already described with the head twitching and the "freezing up" type actions?  If not, depending on the blood test results, I sure don't see any reason for putting him to sleep

Thank you so much, I didn't know there were mentors on site.  So, the vet did draw blood don't have yet but the Clavox antibiotics seem to be working. The reason I continued for a couple of days was because he had been sneezing and shaking his head so I thought is was possible he could have a cold/sinus thing. But when he would just raise his head sideways, hold it, or twitch out stroke like, it was odd,  he would groom and it would hit and his little tongue would stick out, broke my heart.  After 1 injection and 3 doses of clavox he is almost back to normal. I'm almost afraid to say that because I'll jinx it. He wanted to hunt birds this morning!  I adopted him and his brother 14 years ago, his brother had a stroke type thing that he didn't rebound from so I took him to vet and they never let me see him again before they put him down 2 years ago, now I'm wondering if antibiotics would have helped, can't go back that road. Anyway thank you all so much! Love that someone actually read this.  I will refer this site to my firends, not that you guys need it.  Thanks again!!!!!!! Mogli thanks you too.

Hello!! Did the vet say what the problem/diagnosis was, with your cat? My cat has been having these odd tremor/seizures for about 12mths, just as your described, almost like she is about to sneeze.... now she gets them all over her body. The vet has never been able to find anything wrong with her, but I always suspected some type of infection, and was worried it was a brain infection :(
