Hello,

I found this site while reading about raw food diets.

I have two cats. I found Buddy about a year ago. He had a microchip, and I took him to the shelter where he came from. The tried for ten days to contact the previous owners, but they never returned phone calls. With this, and the fact that missing cats from there are supposed to be reported (and he wasn't), the shelter transferred him to me after a ten day waiting period. His estimated to be 4-6 years old. He's a big, 20 pound boy. I know he's technically a DLH, but he looks a little bit like one of the big northern breeds, like a Maine Coon, to me.

He ended up having issues about being alone when I was at work, so I found a friend for him. Lily was living in an outdoor colony that was being fed by a few folks in the neighborhood. They were trying to home the more friendly kitties, and I ended up with Lily. She's a long haired tortie and white, and full of tortitude.

It's worked out well, and they love each other.

Lily has transitioned well to raw food. I'm feeding Primal right now. Buddy is a dry food addict, but I'm happy with the Young Again that he's currently eating. After a year, he finally ate a Primal nugget! Usually, he's a juice licker only when canned or raw is served.

I look forward to lots of great reading!

What a lovely story... Isn't it fabulous when they get on so well?  And they've certainly landed on their feet with you.

Welcome to The Cat Site... we look forward to hearing more about how you're all getting on.

I am not familiar with "raw diet" but buddy looks so much like my cat Ollie its really amazing.  He also hated to be alone so I got him a kitten also that he adores.  Do you ever cut or shave Buddy?  I've been thinking about it with all the hair in the hot weather but he has such beautiful fur I hate to do it.

Thank you for the welcome, Mani! I did get lucky about them getting on so well.

Beborice, Buddy does look like Ollie! I haven't had him trimmed, but I keep considering it. His favorite summer spot is sprawled, belly up, in front of the fan. He may be more comfortable in he summer with less hair.

Msbedelia, I got lucky with intros. They were sharing window space after 24 hours, and spooning and grooming at about a week. Well, Buddy grooms Lily. She never grooms back, lol. Lily is outgoing, and Buddy was lonely, so it worked out.

I'm curious to know exactly what a "raw" diet is.  I give my kitten fancy feast and he eats it but as he is getting bigger he looks around for something else.  I would like to give him something healthy.

Thank too, aj!

Beborice, there's a whole forum here just for raw feeding. It's a lot to digest (pun intended) but it's interesting.
