Can't she stay where you are now (with your parents, I presume)?  Or with some friends who aren't going away?  That way you can visit her when you come home, at least, and when you've graduated, she'll be waiting for you!

If you love your cat, there are 2 things you must NOT do -

1- DO NOT take her to a shelter, most kill animals on a regular basis. Right now is kitten season, so the shelters are overflowing, and they have to make room for new arrivals. It's an endless cycle.

2- DO NOT put her on Craigslist! People pose as families, acquire the dog or cat, then sell it for animal experimentation, or they're (both cats and dogs) used as bait for dogfighting. In that case they are tortured beyond belief, then killed or cast aside, to die alone and in pain.

Sorry for being so candid, but I say - "Let the truth be known".

As the person above mentioned, ask your parents, your friends (as long as they are totally responsible), or perhaps ask at your vet's office. The last thing you want to hear is that your sweet girl goes missing, or was hurt, or killed, by someone who was not as good a caregiver, as you. It will haunt you for your entire life.

Good luck.

How old is she and why on earth can't your parents keep her.  If you are, as I assume, 18, and have had her for at least a few years, surely they have already been at least financially responsible for her, and really, probably they have been doing some of the taking care of her too. Have you discussed this with them? I find it hard to fathom that they would buy you a kitten as a child expecting you to get rid of it when you went to college.  If you did buy it yourself with your own money when you were 16 or something and I am wrong about everything above, what did you plan to do with her when you went to college?

I really can't believe that the cat can't just stay where she is now and am very confused about why.
