Hello, everybody!

My 4-year-old cat is suffering from a rather resilient form of triaditis, we've been trying shots and acupuncture, but we can't seem to boost his appetite. In the past days he has eaten close to nothing, his pancreas is not looking very well and it seems he has developed hepatic lipidosis and an anemia. The doctors suggested putting him on perfusions, but are quite reserved. I've started syringe feeding him, but can anyone suggest other things I could try to help him get better? I am worried sick for him. Thank you, any suggestion or advice would be most welcome.

At this point, since it seems like he's at a very acute stage, I would consider a feeding tube to get his HL under control unless you are able to syringe feed him his normal amount of food every day. How long ago was he diagnosed? Has he been vomiting? Has he been given either an IV or sub-cutaneous fluids for dehydration? Any anti-nausea drugs or appetite stimulants? I am so sorry you're going through this. Triaditis is tough, but it can be managed if he can be helped out of this.

He was diagnosed with triaditis in February, though the first bout (vomiting, apathy, diminished appetite) was last August, when Viyo and perfusions seemed to help and the symptoms disappeared for a while. They found the HL today. He still vomits from time to time, but it's much less frequent (only once last week) and generally subsides after an anti-nausea shot. They've given him an IV today. I've been giving him Viyo for over a month now, not sure if that counts as an appetite stimulant. Thank you for your suggestion and encouragement!

I'm not sure what Viyo is? It seems like a vitamin supplement? And what exactly are in the perfusions?

An appetite stimulant would be something like cyproheptadine or mirtazapine. Injectable B12 has also been known to work as a gentle appetite stimulant and help with IBD kitties. Just some more things to discuss with your vet. Was the anti-nausea shot she got Cerenia? That is usually good for vomiting but doesn't always help with nausea. Ondansetron is a good anti-nausea drug for cats and is something good to have at home so you can treat him for the nausea as needed and not rely on shots at the vets all the time.

I'm just listing the drugs that I know have been used effectively for cats with triaditis, but the most important thing right now with the HL is getting enough food into him. If you are not able to syringe feed him enough, please consider a feeding tube.

Viyo is a probiotic supplement. I'm not sure about all the substances in the perfusions, but there was definitely Milgamma. The vet tried several anti-nausea drugs, but settled on Ondansetron in the end. I hope I won't have to resort to a feeding tube, but I'll definitely consider it if syringe feeding doesn't prove effective.
