does can pumpkin really work how does it work? specially when the cause of diarrhea is can food i notice when my cat eats dry no diarrhea but when i give her a bit even if its half a table spoon 1 hour later diarrhea.  if i mix the pumpkin with wet food will it work? I may want to try it out and see

i been using fortiflora as well seems it is working but when i do switch to can food it starts up. she was doing so well for 4 days straight until that can incident. she ran out of those ibs pills so seems she doesn't have ibs just something in the can may be causing it

Candie, exactly what dry food are you feeding her, and exactly which canned food(s)?

Canned foods are always best for a cat (for more information, http://www.catinfo.org ). So it may just be sensitivity to an ingredient (or more than one). For many kitties with IBD or IBS, the fat content, or carrageenan can be a problem.

When you say "IBS pills," were they prednisone (a steroid)?

yes prednison, i feed her blue buffalo wilderness chicken, if its carrageenan ingrdent i don't know what else is there beside nature variety but that really breaks me if i want to buy a months worth :\ for 2 cats.  i don't know what can cat food started it but i think it was evo or either felidae. i still have a rabbit formula of nature's variety i may try after i see 1 week worth of solid stool i'll try this again but if there are something that isn't expensive that doesn't have carregeenan in it i would like to try it. most of the foods i get has carregeenan in it. she also ate halo but that has non and she did diarrhea on it.

she is doing really well and i hate these diarrhea problem she has finally stopped my carpet is a mess and it still needs through cleaning :\

the nature variety i haven't given her casue i was afraid of diarrhea i did gave her a bite of rabbit so she can taste it. don't know if i saw diarrhea or maybe i didnt' give her enough

Well, some kitties with IBS / IBD are sensitive to the amount of fat. EVO and Nature's Variety canned foods are pretty high in fat. A reasonably priced food that is low carb with animal-based protein, isn't as high in fat, and has no carrageenan is the By Nature Organics line.

Probably not. It really depends on the cat. It's just an ingredient that's in almost all canned foods that appears to bother a number of cats.

Well, I beg to differ. There's no better resource out there for IBD kitties than that site. The site owner has worked very closely with the country's leading vet school experts on putting accurate, detailed information together, and that site has been a godsend for many kitties with IBD. You simply haven't done the work to find a canned food that works for your kitty. Of course it's frustrating to see your kitty suffering from her condition. And you may not want to feed her canned food since the kibble you're feeding doesn't cause her diarrhea. But she would be the exception, not the rule, and it doesn't change the fact that kibble is not a species-appropriate food for a cat.

I had an IBS kitty and we went through A LOT of canned foods before we found some she could actually tolerate. Dry food is not an appropriate food for any cat but especially a cat with digestive issues. If you can't afford a food without carrageenan and you find that she isn't particularly sensitive to it(my girl wasn't but excess fat, grains, and veggies/fruit made her very ill), maybe try Natural Balance Venison/Green Pea. It's not perfect but my IBS kitty did excellent on it and, along with probiotics/occasional slippery elm, enzymes, and pumpkin, she had complete alleviation of symptoms. Every cat with IBS is different, though, so you might need to try several foods before you find one she tolerates.  Prednisone is not a long term solution.

The two sites LDG posted are excellent resources.
