Hi everyone,

My cat is a 2 year old male, neutered (Ragdoll). He's been diagnosed with metaphyseal dystrophy (often seen in large breed male cats that are neutered at a very early age). He's just had two surgeries (10 days apart) where they removed both of his hip bones (as they were broken). Although it's been over a month now, he is still walking like he is afraid to put the weight on any of his legs and does not even want to try to jump. His back legs are very wobbly and I am afraid he will never be the same again. He spends most of his days sleeping and is also a very picky eater...(has always been but now that he's lost more than 5lb after the surgeries this is becoming a real problem)

Any advice or similar experiences??

I appreciate it very much.

Thanks,

Nina

I'm sorry to hear of this.

I don't have any knowledge, but I wonder if the vet recommended physical therapy to build up the muscles he still has.  Water-based PT seems like a good idea (yeah, I know cats don't like water, but....)

Maybe massage or acupuncture might help? You would need to find a good holistic vet trained in Chinese medicine though.
