Best canned food to go with Raw?

So I got my 12 week old kitten, Ares, on a half raw diet. I feed him 4 meals a day, 1.5 ounces each meal. (3 ounces of raw, 3 ounces of canned. Is that too much for a 12 week old 3.2 pound kitten?) right now I was giving him Innova cat and kitten, until I realized it wasn't grain free. Today I gave him a can of natures choice kitten food (grain free) and he seems to like it.

I know there are going to be times in the future where I'm going to be having my mother watch him, and she's not all that keen about the raw food. In your opinion, what is the absolute best kitten food I can give him? One that is closet to what he's getting from his raw food right now (which is bravo balanced.) Thanks in advanced!

Also, for those of you who remember my last posts, Ares has finished his medication for an URI! He seems to be doing much better, with a slight sneeze here and there. I'll be taking him to the vet tomorrow for a check up and possibly his second set of shots (if his health is up to it :) )

He says hi btw -

Because he is still a kitten give him as much food as he wants. My kitten is also on a raw/ wet mix (I would like her to be on all raw but my other cat refuses to eat raw and he eats more when she eats the canned food with him). I did a lot of research into wet foods and my top pick would be hound and gato it is 98% meat so very close to feeding just raw. Of course my other cat who is the pickiest eater ever will not dane to eat pate so I feed tiki cat and weruva which are also rated very highly (mostly the chicken flavours). Here is a good list of good wet, raw and freeze dried raw (http://www.naturalcatcareblog.com/2010/12/the-7-best-natural-commercial-cat-foods-so-far/). If your mother won't feed him raw you may also look into freeze dried raw. For me I was able to get my mother to feed my animals raw when I leave them with her because she saw how much less they poop (the dog no longer makes a huge mess of the yard nor has accidents in the house). I also leave the natures variety to feed because it doesn't look like raw meat and is really easy to thaw and serve. Natures variety even has raw bites which look a lot like kibble and is even more super easy for people not into handling raw meat (http://consciouscat.net/2012/10/03/...-raw-bites-make-raw-feeding-easier-than-ever/)

There is also commercial raw that looks like canned/wet food; RadCat gets high praise from owners and cats alike.  (Needs to be kept refrigerated/frozen.)

I like Stella & Chewy's FD cat varieties, Hound & Gatos various flavors and Tiki Cat. Tiki is coming out with some new meat flavors in the fall (no fish!).

If price is no issue I second the Evo and TikiCat recommendations.  If price is an issue, the best 'cheap' wet food IMO are the Fancy Feast Classics (be careful with this though- the non classic flavors are not good) (also to be clear, these  are not on par with the foods mentioned above, but in terms of weighing price against quality I don't think you can do much better).

Thanks everyone! I tried NV Raw, but my boy wont touch it. He loves the Bravo though - so that's always a plus. I did some looking around, and was unable to find a single store in RI that carries Hound and Gatos (even though their website gave me a list of stores that carried it, after calling said stores I found out that they don't.) I think I'll try the Evo and Wysong foods and see if he likes them, as he's never been too fond of wellness.

Also, Is Newman’s organic grain-free canned really all that good? I found it in my local grocery store (stop and shop). That, and has anyone tried Great Life Essentials?

Thanks again!

Price is an issue to an extent. I don't want to pay over $2 a 3oz can - which does leave me open to some options! I would personally not let my cat eat fancy feast, but that's just me. I got this little boy knowing I would have to be spending quite a bit to keep him healthy :)

Newman's is good. It is grain free as the name says, really low starch, and has no carrageenans (except some of the poultry ones might? Not sure I am thinking of the right brand).  Obviously if you also are interested in the organic movement and potential benefits to eating organic for your kitty that is a selling point of this too. I have never personally tried it though so I can't give you a personal review.

Newmans own is on the list of top foods but I have not tried it. As for hound and gato most pet stores will order it in for you.

Does Ziwipeak sell in stores? or only online? I have tried Natures Variety with my little guy before, and he seems to like it well enough. He's also eating EVO - scoffed it down pretty quickly. If my choices were natures variety, Newmans, or EVO - which one would be best? as he seems to like them all. (maybe just switch them up?? haha)

Switching is better. You're providing different nutritional profiles, and you're preventing him from getting fixed on any one food (discontinuations, recalls, allergies, etc.).

I believe you can get it in stores. At least some stores
. Please, have a look at this part of Ziwipeak's website: http://www.ziwipeak.com/where-to-buy-ziwipeak.

or only online?

I am sure you can get it online. Simply, do a Google search for Ziwipeak.

I have tried Natures Variety with my little guy before, and he seems to like it well enough.

Good Good
.

He's also eating EVO - scoffed it down pretty quickly.

A MAJOR plus in my humble opinion
.

I would say Evo and Nature's Variety are the best. That is nothing but my
and or humble opinion.

as he seems to like them all. (maybe just switch them up?? haha)

I would say switch them up, just in case one specific brand has a recall. But, I would learn more towards the Evo and the Nature's Variety.

Take a look at catinfo.org it is written by a vet who is an expert on nutrition.

@elizabeth1st:  please feel free to start your own thread either in Raw or Nutrition forums with specific questions.  Meanwhile, here is a link to a bunch of articles that cover the basics of nutrition.  We're here to help! :)

I sent you a heart felt response and then went to correct a few typos and the entire message was lost.  I had 2 cats that lived to be 18 on Fancy Feast and one cat litter pan.!!!!  They were wonderful cats.

So now I have 2 pedigreed cats and I am finding out more information especially regarding commercial cat food, than I ever wanted to know.  Now and after reading some of the information put out in Dr Pierson's excellent article, I really don't know what to feed the 2 furry babies.  Even the better food has potatoes, cranberries, sweet potatoes, artichokes.  Sounds awful for a cat.

I don't think I want to go RAW yet so I would just to know what is an acceptable commercial food for cats.

Thanks, Susan
