I'm a newbie but super grateful this forum exists! My little Sarah, indoor cat less than 1 year old, has had a scab on her neck that recently opened. It started out as a few raised bumps under her fur that could be felt while petting her. Now the hair has stopped growing and the scab is open. I've noticed a little blood. She doesn't seem uncomfortable tho and I don't see her excessively itching either. After reading around online, I'm going to stop using plastic bowls. I'm also going to put some Hydrogen peroxide on it. What else should I do? What could this be from? I am trying to avoid a very expensive trip to the vet unless necessary. She lives and plays with her brother who doesn't have anything like it. I've attached a pic and would appreciate any tips/suggestions/ thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Welcome, Sarah! To me, that looks like a bug bite of some sort or do you think your other kitty may have played a bit too rough? It does look like a bite/scratch to me. Do you have any Colloidal Silver? I suggest this one if you can You can use it full strength right on the bite/wound. It is safe and is truly a miracle worker for wounds on our pets and on us!!! Great to have on hand. What about the possibility of fleas? :dk: could be a reaction is there are fleas.

I would keep watch on the area but I think it will heal up on it's own and the CS will help :vibes::vibes::vibes:

Thanks for your quick reply! Yes I suppose it could be a big bite- though I've felt the bump before it opened for a long time. I thought it was nothing- just a part of her skin as she was unbothered. It is possible Simon got a little rough- he is def the instigator of the two. She's always getting playfully harassed by him. Never anything crazy though- as far as I know that is- they are alone a lot during the day though. I will try the amino acid though and I'm putting on some front line. I just worry that since this was originally bumps under the fur that since its gotten worse and showing no sign of naturally resolving, that its something more serious :/ hopefully not tho. Ill try those things and see... Thanks again!

It seems to be worsening. The scab is bigger then I thought as it spans all the way up to her mouth under the fur that's still in tact. She does itch it. I have applied frontline to both cats and as of 2 days ago, they eat/drink out of non plastic bowls. What could this be??? Help!

Gosh - I am sorry to hear that it seems to be spreading so quickly. There is really no way we can tell you for sure what is going on. I honestly think you seem very worried now and I think she needs to see the vet. That will be the only way to actually get an answer. Keep us posted and mega vibes to you and Simon. :vibes: :vibes: :vibes: :vibes:

Hi Sarahandsimon!

First - DO NOT use peroxide on the area - neither on her nor on yourself.........using peroxide on wounds comes out of 'old-wives-tales' or 'urban myths'. Peroxide actually damages cellular tissue - apart from the pain it causes. Look here Wound Care True or False

Here's more to the point: Hydrogen peroxide can impede healing and lead to scarring because it destroys newly-formed skin cells.

I just posted in another thread about how once an itch develops - for whatever the reason - once the cat begins scratching - an endless cycle is set up....until that cycle is ended by a Vet's intervention, I believe that what you're seeing will get worse and worse....so, like it or not, she will have to be seen. Here's the other post I just wrote: http://www.thecatsite.com/t/260077/strange-bump-lesion#post_3362478

Hope that helps!
