I bought a portable charger to carry with me. It's literally the size of a lipstick tube.

It is only good for small things like iPODs and phones. And I find that it doesn't give 100% charge before it is depleted, but it's good in a pinch.  I charge it up and carry it around and for those times when my cell phone runs really low, I plug the phone into the charger and can get about 50% battery charge. Then when I get home I recharge the Halo.
I got a Just Mobile Gum Pro about 3 years ago and love it. It's great for charging my smartphone, Kindle or e-cigarettes on the go.

i see Amazon has this one on sale for $49.95. It gets good reviews from most people. How does it work with the Kindle? Does it charge it fully? More than once? Is it a Kindle Fire?  I have a Nook Color and would like the option of having a portable charger. My truck has no lighter/power socket.

I don`t know about that one. But the Halo states it will charge a Galaxy S3 phone 2.5 times. I did not find this to be the case.  The first time I charged my Galaxy S3 with it, my phone was at 37% charge.  By the time the fully charged Halo ran out of power, my phone had only reached 98%.  That was a 61% charge.

The next few times I charged my phone using it, it only gave me 44%  before the Halo ran out of power.

I`m not happy with that, but it`s good in a pinch.  I`ve used it to give me some extra life to my phone and my eReader, but I don`t depend on it to give me full charges on anything.  And again, it is not meant to work on laptops, notebooks or tablets. It`s strictly for smaller items.

What I do really like about it though is that it is compact, which is why I never returned it when I found out it wasn`t living up to the accolades of the host on The Shopping Channel where I bought it.

I have a phone charging, my Kindle Fire HD , and my iPod. Hubby has phone and iPad on chargers. We are  low key with our electronics, pretty much just the minimum. :)

Nice, Mooch! I'd like something like that in the kitchen. Thanks for the tip!
One of my instructors in college talked about placing outlets in unexpected but useful places (like in a mantle on a fireplace for people's Christmas lights!).  Ever since I always look for stuff like that.

The Just Mobile doesn't use 1/4 of its capacity to charge up my Kindle II now. The Kindle battery is on its last legs, though, and doesn't take a full charge. When it was new, the battery capacity was 1530 mAh; it's probably around half of that now.

According to this, the Nook Color's battery capacity is 4000 mAh, so you should be able to fully charge it once with a Just Mobile Gum, which is 4400 mAh.

When my brother and I build something, our rule is 'an outlet every other stud'  That means they are no more than 4 feet apart.

Our electrician told us that the requirement in Pennsylvania now in the kitchen is one outlet every two feet along the kitchen counter. I think that's a little much, but well, I'd probably use them eventually.

He is putting an outlet way down at the floor by the French door in the kitchen. Why? For the Tacky White Tree (TWT) at Christmas. When I asked him about that, he looked at me and raised an eyebrow.

"But, but, but.....the customer is ALWAYS right! Right?"

He just shook his head and started to laugh. And I'm getting my outlet.

(Seriously, after he thought about it for a couple of minutes, he admitted it might be a good idea. Not that he would admit it to me, but he did tell Rick. I think that he thinks I'm a few Fruit Loops short of a full box sometimes. Rick has said more than once that I'm lucky I'm so cute.

This is from when we were moving in; it's the best I can find without taking a picture of the dishes I need to finish washing.  We've since painted, added hardware, changed the light, and added a window shade.
I COULD stand one more outlet to the right side of that window.  I do most of my charging on that counter and there is a radio and phone plugged in to the last outlet.  Things just have to take turns sometimes.

Nice kitchen, Mooch! It looks nice and roomy. I like your cabinets, too. And I really like that window. Do you like your peninsula? Do you like having your microwave above your stove?

It's wonderful!  Our last kitchen was so tiny I had just a fraction of the counter space I do now. It's very appreciated!!  As are the decent grade cabinets the builder put in.  Our old cabinets weren't bad enough to replace yet; but these are definitely sturdier.  The peninsula is my favorite part (along with the view out my back windows, which were behind me when I took that pic) because I can spread out when I work without having to face a wall.  I wrap presents there, serve holiday meals from there, bake...everything.  I've had 3-4 people doing jobs in the kitchen for those holiday meals without going nuts at all!  Right now it's more crowded with 2 high chairs and a couple step-stools for the kids; but one chair is mostly off to the left against that wall where my little tv is.  I spend a lot of time in there.  The microwave over the stove is ok.  Its nice to save the counter space; but I'm always worried I'll drop something on that glass top stove!  I have spilled sauce trying to get it out once.  I also wish the vent would vent outside instead of me having to open the windows if something burns.  Fortunately I don't do that too much.  My real "gripe" is that beyond the peninsula is carpeted.  DD eats at that counter a lot.  But my office and DS's playpen are tucked into part of that area (its a big L shaped room) so it's nice it's carpeted there.
