At least 6 months... Are the fleas and worms that BAD already? If fleas are a problem, get yourself a good sturdy flea comb and that should get most of them. Just remember, fleas are not dead until you "pop" their exoskeleton (rubbing them between your fingers doesn't work). When I start on a cat or kitten, I'll sit with them and start to comb. If I get any fleas, I usually pull them off the comb with my fingers and drop the hair, flea dirt (poop) and fleas on a white sheet of paper (makes seeing the fleas easier). Now, you need something to crush the fleas with... either the hard end of the flea comb works or I used a dead 9 volt battery. After a few weeks of doing this, the cat is flea free and usually stays that way for quite a while. No harmful flea sprays or herbicides are used.
Not 6 months! 6 weeks for some products, although my vet says for a bad case you can use certain de-wormers as early as 3 weeks. Ask your vet for a safe de-wormer. For fleas, I believe Advantage is safe at 8 weeks, some others are marked for use at 12 weeks. Again, ask your vet what's safest. Before that, you can definitely use a flea comb. I use a cup of hot soapy water to knock the fleas into. The soap makes them sink so they drown faster, and can't jump out before they drown.
