Hi all, Melissa again still hovering over Mia after her spay on the 16th of last month.

Gradually I've taken the dry food away from her which the vet gave me (long story) and that was fine and during that time she's gradually also started eating less.. :( I've called the vet and she said its perfectly normal until she stops eating entirely.

I'm giving her all of her favourites and she's loving it but she's only eating two spoons in the morning and one at night.. Which is significantly less. At one time she was polishing off her whole bowl twice a day.

She's pooping fine and all of that business. She's snuggling, she has no pain, although she is meowing atleast 10x more than usual and it's a deeper sound. She got a new cat cubby with two high platforms and she's quite chuffed with it, I dunno if there's anything wrong.

Do cats usually do this?

So, she's basically only eating three spoons of food a day?  Unless those are BIG spoons, I say, there is a problem.

That said, spayed females do not require as many calories as unsprayed cats.

Do you know how many ounces she is eating--what size cat food can do you have there in Australia?

Equally important:  has she lost weight?

I don't know ounces sorry we don't use ounces, she eats about three rounded tablespoons so that's really not a real lot. Our cans are 400grams.

I will add that she is an indoor girl, her weight on the day of spay was 2.4 kilo but by eye she's actually dropped a bit of weight a week or two after spay and she looks to have put it all back on.

Three tablespoons is not enough food and your vet is incorrect that you shouldn't worry until she is completely off food. Cats can very quickly develop fatty liver disease if they are not getting enough calories. I completely agree that dry food is bad for cats but with a cat that will not eat enough wet food I advise to supplement with either dry or freeze dried food until you can figure out what is going on. Will she eat the dry or treats if you give it to her? Fortiflora also works to get them interested in food, have you tried that? You can maybe try fortiflora or putting treats on the wet before you start supplementing with dry or freeze dried. I ended up having to give into my cat and give him some dry because he is such a bad eater- he still eats the same amount of wet (less than 3 oz and probably about what your girl eats) but eats dry and freeze dried chicken so he gets enough calories, it is not ideal but at least he is eating which is my main concern right now.

I would also try taking her to another vet, a decreased appetite is an indication something is wrong health wise so you should for sure get her checked out hopefully by a good feline specialist if you can find one.
