Mazy has a distinctly different color in a halo around her pupil from the rest of her eye. I noticed it about six months ago, but am not sure if it's always been that way. It's hard to tell in older pictures, my camera wasn't as good.

Queen Eva appears to have this halo, in more of an olive tone, but it is not always noticeable. In older pictures (with the same camera) it does not seem like it was there, I only noticed it recently. In Mazy it is always noticeable. Jennie does not have this at all.

Is this something to be worried about? Does it indicate a deficiency of some kind? I can't find any information when searching, but I am just terrible at searches.

Mazy's:

Queen Eva's

Jennie's (no halo)

Thank you Tricia, that helps! Now I want everyone to start staring at their cats' eyes to see if they have halos around their pupils, and take pictures if possible. I am such a worry wart!

Hi Otto, I have two Korats, and they have a halo as their eyes change colour.  As babies (like all babies) eyes are blue.  As youngsters, they are amber.  Then upon maturity(2-4yrs), they turn the adult green.  The change to green is really interesting as the colour starts to appear first around the pupil, and gradually spreads.  I have a 2.5yrs neutered boy, and his are almost all green.  My 4month kitten is mostly amber, but I can just see a halo of green.

So while not all halos may be an indication of undergoing colour change, the propensity for a halo to exist as a normal part of a cat's life would indicate that your cat's halos are most likely perfectly healthy.

I'm not awake enough to look right now, but I think I do too. :lol3:
Thank you thank you! Abby's are the same color as Mazy cat's! Thank you!

Thank you for your reply! Yes, that was the only information I could find while searching, about the halo that forms as a kitten's eyes begin to change. There was a lot on persians, especially. That's how I came up with the term halo, in fact, I was thinking of it as a 'ring' before that. Since Mazy and Queen Eva are adults I wanted more reassurance than what I had found.
