Hello :)
I'm so glad i found this site! I've poked around in already existing threads, but they don't completly match my situation.

My dad recently found a mama cat and her kittens living under his porch and i'd really like them to warm up to me. I can't stand to see homeless kitties and i know if i can't get the mama spayed and the kittens some homes the homeless kitty population will only grow.

I've been going to my dad's house about 4 times a day and given them some food. i sit down and i talk quietly and i'm careful to avoid eye contact with mama because i don't want her to take it as a sign of aggression (which is soo hard because she has dark fur and Beautiful green eyes!). I was just wondering if anyone has any advice for me?

I don't know how old the kittens are, but they can eat solid food now.

If mommy lets you near her kittens, most likely she is a stray. You are doing the right things (avoiding eye contact, etc.). The kittens sound about five weeks old. Is there any way you can bring them all inside (mommy, too)? It would help socialize them, so you can find them good homes. They may also need a vet's attention for ear mites, fleas and worms.

Thank you for helping them.

Mama hasnt let me get too close yet. Today i got the closest i have ever gotten, but she hissed at me so i put the food down and backed away a bit.

Im afraid of tryin to catch em, cuz they're fast and i don't wanna undo any trust she does have for me. But i want to find them home while they are still cute lil kittens. I'm wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and could tell me how long it took for the cat(s) to warm up to em

The kittens are movable?  You cant pick THEM up?  Often the thing to do is to take the mom in a human trap, and pick up the kittens, if you know where they are.

If you can, trap mommy and have her spayed as soon as you can. The kittens can be bribed with food (without mommy, they'll be hungry). I once trapped an entire litter of four by putting the food dish inside a crate and attaching a length of twine to the door. I looped the twine through the cage so that I could pull on it and close the door from a distance. I walked the other end of the twine back to my house and waited. Within a few minutes, all the kittens were inside that crate eating. I pulled the door closed and kept the twine taut until I could walk slowly over to the crate and secure the door. The kits made like popcorn inside the crate but I was able to get them in the house and start socializing them. Food is a wonderful tool!

We all start out that way but you will learn fast. Contact that organization - even if they can't help you trap, they will be able to give you tips and support. They may also be able to lend you a trap or two. Good luck!

You know what.... THAT is how we all started out, not knowing what to do! And, that is how you learn. By doing. :hugs: :hugs: I hope the organization will help with the family of kitties. The sooner the better as the kittens will need handling and socializing very soon. Best of luck! And :thanks: for trying. :vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes::vibes:
