My cat was on two different antibiotics and he's still not better with sneezing and eye and nose discharge so my vet and I think it's a virus.

But I'm really not sure should I try lysine or antiviral like zovirax

It's best to discuss this with your vet. Has he been diagnosed with herpes?  You said your vet also thinks it's a virus, did he recommend anything at all? Or are those the choices he recommends?

Here is an article you can check out. http://www.thecatsite.com/a/feline-herpes-and-rhinotracheitis

I know L-lysine is used to control the herpes virus in cats. While L-Lysine supplements are not a direct cure, it has been shown to both decrease a cat's risk of contracting the rhinotracheitis virus, slow the growth of the infection and prevent future outbreaks, as there is no cure. The Zovirax may shorten this initial outbreak.

Thank you! I will read the links you posted now - and yes my vet want me to give my cat zovirax but I want to try Lysine first because I'm scared of zovirax it's strong and toxic to cats ...

Zovirax, like any medication, has possible side effects, but is not toxic in proper doses. http://www.petplace.com/drug-library/acyclovir-zovirax/page1.aspx so you can make an informed decision.

I'm pretty sure there are other members here that know more about this. I'm sure they will help with more answers soon. I just wanted to kick start your research.

Good luck with your furbaby, and keep us posted.

Lysene has helped my cats a great deal when they have a sneezy episode for a few days! Improvement It's almost immediate! I give them Lysene treats by Pet Naturals of Vermont...500mg..but always consult your Vet!
