I took my cat to the vet today for a spay surgery and was asked if I wanted to pay $16 extra for them to give the cat a Buprenorphine injection and that it would last for 3 days, so she would not need any other pain meds.  I cannot find anything online about it lasting for 3 days.  Has anyone else heard of this?

There is a buprenorphine SR version (sustained release) which is supposed to last 72 hours.

Thanks!  They did not list it as SR on the bill, but that is what it must be since they said it would last.  I am glad I got it for her.

My 12.5 year old cat just had 4 teeth pulled and they gave him a long-acting Buprenex injection (to last 3 days). Today is day 3, and although his pupils are still dilated, which is a little freaky, he appears to be pain-free: super-affectionate, rolling all over everything and purring. MUCH better than the last time he had dental surgery--he looked miserable and dopey and out of it for a few days. Plus he wouldn't take his pain pills. As long as this wears off soon, I'd say it's a godsend.
