I have two sixteen old male cats both of whom are neuteured, the stories I read about cats going outside terrify me, I also have on adopted stray pregnant cat who due to circumstances is not aloud outside. I was wondering is it cruel to keep all three cats inside, whats the pros and cons.

I have 4 meezers (Siamese) - 2 sibs. -sisters -age 7 ;their mom aged 9 and one fraidy cat (not named for the rather famous Currier and Ives print which w own) but a flame pt meezer aged 13. None have ever been outdoor cats and they do NOT miss it. Imho, there are just too many dangers -bunchers who steal cats, cars, wildlife, people who might harm them, accidents that can inadvertendently injure them -the list is endless! They willingly walk on leashes or play in a fenced in area in the back but only under supervision. We also have -don 't lol - a stroller for cats which they rather like. Meezers of course have short hair so become cold more easily than most breeds but still, regardless of breed, this would be my policy. They have lots of toys insidevsnd lots ifvgtirnfd so this cat -yours -sounds like s /he will have a long healthy life. The avg age fir outdoor cats is 2. ;for indoor 15 or more depending on the breed. I always found this article from Siamese Rescue instructive: www.siameserescue.org/educate /educate1.php

First of all I know there are cultural differences in our two countries.  But the pros are that indoor only cats live longer, are healthier, and avoid dangers they aren't aware of like cars and cruel people.  The cons are that if the two male cats have been allowed outside all their lives it might be very difficult for them to adjust to living indoors only.  One option you might have for them is to build an outdoor enclosure for them that is attached to your home so they can still go outside but will stay safe.

I meant sixteen week old cats not years lol. They managed to get out once but only to the fence, my oldest stray cat is roughly ten months and has probably always been outside but she doesnt seem to miss it. I have plenty of toys etc, my main issue is if theyll be unhappy.

Both of mine are indoor, Im in north east England and live on a bus route and theres a lot of outdoor cats here to, its safer for them being indoors, im in the process of introudcing more height for them to jump around, mine have never been outside other than trips to the vet.

I think the biggest pro is the safety of them :)
