hello all. for a course i am doing it asks about pros and cons for AI in the cat. im trying to remain open minded as don't know much about it. can find out alot about how sperm is collected but not how the queen is prepared or what she has to go through to have this done. does anyone know and can help?

I'm not a breeder but I do have close contact with a number of breeders, and I've never heard of anyone doing AI with cats. Without any scientific studies to back it up, IMO the biggest con is that it probably wouldn't work. Cats are induced ovulators, which means they don't release the ova until they are mated. Somehow I can't see artificial insemination having the same effect as a real live stud mating with the queen.

i know, i feel the same but trying to answer the advantages and disadvantages and its hard as just have a list of disadvantages. seems it is done alot in the US with pedigrees. don't agree with it myself but i suppose its a massive money making thing for some people!
