Cats can definitely hurt a rabbit. One of my cats once caught a bunny outside. On the other hand, I've also known a couple of cats who live peacefully with rabbits. So it depends on how they're introduced. I would definitely monitor them closely and not leave your rabbit alone with the cats. At least the rabbit is sticking up for itself, which may deter the cats from attacking it.

None of my cats (and I have a lot of cats!) will bother my rabbit. Most adult domestic rabbits are pretty tough and will put the big hurt on a cat if they feel the need to. I wouldn't try it with a smaller breed of rabbit (under 3-4 pounds or so) or a baby bunny, but if an adult rabbit is charging the cats, you can pretty well bet she'd take care of business if they tried anything ;). Of course, if there's a real fight anyone could get hurt, so you should keep an eye on things, but with what you described, that sounds unlikely.
