We recently adopted a 2 1/2 year old female, Pumpkin Seed.  Our shelter charges $65 up to 3 years then $50 above 3 years.  That includes spay, shots and chip.

I've only adopted from a shelter once. Cost $150 for the kitty, vaccines, chip and neuter.

I've never paid to adopt a cat, given how my life goes I'll never have to!

Callista was given to me by a coworker, Jasio and Hector both came from clients at work and The Niblet is a failed foster.  Where ever I go, I am blessed with cats.

$25 for my special needs cat.  She was at a no-kill shelter and has a chronic eye condition, so they spent a lot of money on her over the two years she was there - various infections, de-worming, spay, microchip, vaccines and all the tests for FIV etc... also cut her nails and cleaned her ears the day I adopted her and sent me home with a bottle of her prescription eye drops.

I paid $60 at a no-kill. She's a healthy young adult cat, about 18 months when I adopted her. She was spayed, of course, but needed her rabies booster and a microchip. She had all her other shots and tests.

My local "kill shelter" was doing a special. For cats over the age of 5, they were 25 dollars. That included all the shots, neutering, microchipped, and a free kennel. I adopted my precious cat there about three weeks ago, and she's changed my life so much! Love her! :)

Mine was $65 and included spay, vaccinations, and tests.  No microchip, though:  I need to schedule one of those.  She also ended up having juvenile gingivitis.  My vet gave me a free check-up since it was an adopted cat, but I still had to pay for the medication (duh).  We have a few different organizations in our area.  I went with the cats-only rescue shelter, and I've been volunteering there.  All the cats are $65, I think.  $65 is pretty common for all the shelters, but I know one where kittens and purebred cats are more and senior and special needs cats are only $25.

Outside of the actual adoption and vet bills, I also had a $200 non-refundable fee at my apartment, plus $25 added to the initial refundable deposit, and an added $25 to the rent.  So, all in all, when I got the cat, I paid $315 up front ($65 to the shelter and $250 to the apartment manager), not including any vet work or supplies.

We never paid anything to adopt Oreo. He came from the lady across the road when her cat had kittens  who happened to be the sister of my mother's friend.

Guess it cost my mother for the shots and fixing/de-clawing but other than that the little ball of fur was free =)

We adopted a 3yo kitty with an unknown background last year from a local humane society for $125.  Sadly kitty was a biter and after much soul searching and a behaviorist analysis, we took her back but to a different humane soc.  I am hoping she was taken by one of the technicians

Most of my cats were rescued strays, so I didn't pay anything. BlackJack was the last cat that I actually paid to adopt: I found him on PetFinder. It cost me $80 to adopt him, and I drove almost 100 miles one-way to pick him up.

:lol3: All of our cats are rescued ferals, and we kept the health compromised ones, so they all cost us a LOT.

Since there's no low-cost s/n near us, spaying and neutering alone cost more than adoptions fees.

You make a valid point, Laurie.
I guess I should have said it didn't cost anything TO adopt them, but after that it's another story!

$0 to adopt Gracie from the coworker her found her outside on a January day. $50 for Squeaker at a local shelter's "adoptathon", down from their regular $85 (which we would have paid for her of course). Squeaker's care was certainly worth much more- she was cared for at the shelter for a year, was spayed there and had her teeth cleaned (or so the vet suspects based on her pearly whites), given 3-year vaccinations, etc.

You got that right. Mine cost nothing to get... but oh so much after getting them. :lol3: Well, except for Pipsqueak whom I adopted from a shelter seven years ago. And, believe me, he has cost WAY more than the fee because he was so very sick from the get-go. He had it real rough in the beginning as a kitten. Now he is tough as nails. :lol2: :soldier:

He's as tough as nails cuz he had plenty of tender-loving care & a meowmy who loves him & made sure he got well again!

Winchester & Salem were in pretty bad shape when I rescued them, too. But you would never know it to look at them now.
And you would never know that Winchester, Geronimo, Ricochet, Samurai, & Jinxy all have the dry form of FIP: just looking at them you'd think they're as healthy as my cats that have no ailments to contend with at all.

Both my kittens are from our city's Humane Society. Their prices are:

$175 for a kitten
$165 for a kitten + mom together
$40 to $60 or so for an adult, seems to depend on age. Old cats are very cheap.
$99 for two adult cats

Plus the occasional "black cat days" or "free cat days" when the shelter is overloaded. Adoption fees include vet bills paid to date, usually some free food, spay/neuter cost, 6 weeks of trial pet insurance and a free online lost pet service. Extra for a microchip.
