When we got Bandit from the shelter we paid $50. It included his first round of shots, being neutered, and a bag of cat food.

My last adopted cat Thai
cost only $50 as he was a senior cat - they guessed between 10 and 12 years old.

The same shelter today charges $145 per adult cat, and $175 per kitten, which includes all the things listed in the article, even the microchip, and 6 weeks of health insurance. Seniors now have the fees waived.

That is a good deal I guess that included the chip and insurance.

My RB kitty Chynna was put out onto the street after someone abandoned her in a stairwell and moved out of the building.  I found her the next morning and took her inside. When I got home from work she was sleeping on my bed, and gave me nose kisses when I picked her up.  So she adopted me free of charge.

Abby, my oldest came to me also free of charge from my friend's daughter's former roommate.

Spencer and Katie I adopted 18 months ago from the Vet's office.  $150.00 each which included spay and neutering and their shots. It also covered Spencer's hernia repair.

It cost €90 ($117) to adopt Mogli in March. He was fully vaccinated (for an indoor cat), neutered and microchipped, so I figured the price was a bargain.

Eight days after putting my dear old Grey to sleep, I adopted three cats from the shelter. Normally they charg $50 per cat, but they cut me a deal since I was adopting three so it was $25 a cat. They were given their first round of shots, microchips, some litter, a bag of dry food, flea collars (never used them), and lots of coupons. I was also given a sheet to hand the vet that gets them their Rabies shot and a health exam. I paid for their neutering/spaying since I wanted them all done immediately.

I hate to see any animal in a cage at the shelter. I feel so sorry for them because I can't take them all home. I visit the shelter about once a week and take my granddaughter with me to see them. She wants to take them all home. I said no cause her house is already a zoo. Rather it's hers or mom is just babysitting a dog for a family member. I do wish all the animals get a good home and not be put to sleep. If I had a big house in the country I would definitely get more cats.

I posted in the other thread already.  It's about $120 per cat at the shelter where we got our cats including vaccines, microchip, neutering, one month of flea treatment.  We got our first two on a two-for-one special because they wanted to adopt out the sister and brother together.  We went there to just pick out one cat but fell in love with them both.  :-)

Aya was "free" off the streets but mind you I did go through about the equivalent of $300 USD to get her well at the Vet and paid $200 to have her spayed 4 1/2 mos later, so that makes any shelter cat look cheap by comparison. I wouldn't trade her for the world, but it makes me sad when people tell me they are looking for a cat but scoff at the fees or insist on a "free" kitten. Kittens are a lot of work and an adult will bond to you if you are loving and provide it food, scritches and shelter.

When we got Midori from the local HS we paid $75 for a 4 yr old adult cat. I think all the local VT shelters are up to $150 on kittens under 6mos and $125 on adults, senior cats are discounted as are special needs animals, there is also a discount for taking 2, etc... They all go out spayed/neutered with collar and a box carrier. Now they all get chipped which we were a few years early for. When we got Midori technically speaking my mom was the adoptee as they own the house where we live and she was eligible for a 1/2 off program as a senior herself. But we happily paid full price as a donation.

My rescue group is a non profit, we charge $90.00 for kittens, or 2 for $135.00 to help promote adopting companions/siblings/bonded pairs.

This includes Deworming, flea treatment, spay/neutering, vaccines, testing for felv and microchipping.

Adults are $70.00, but if we did not have to spay/neuter (came to us done) then it's $25.00.

This is a good price since lots of rescued kittens come with diarrhea, uri's, eye infections, and God knows what else, so there's med costs involved too.

If a kitten/cat has any issues that surface shortly after adoption, we pay for whatever it is they need too.

Keeps our reputation where it should be :)

A happy adoptor=a happy kitty and a good life. That's what it's about!

I think it was somewhere between $50 and $70 for each of the girls (adopted at the same time) and it included the adoption, first shots, spaying and microchip. But I actually had them spayed elsewhere.

Tony came from a local rescue group called "Friends of Gummi". It was 12 years ago and I think cost was around $60. Angel and Tippytoes were both strays who adopted us! They knew the right house to come to.

I didn't get either of my cats from a shelter.  The shelters/rescues in this area charge between $75 and $125 for a kitten.  They charge a little less for an adult cat and a lot less for a senior/special needs cat.  Many have a seniors for seniors program where they practically give a senior cat to a senior citizen.  All of the rescues spay/neuter, deworm, and give age appropriate shots.  I don't know how prevalent the microchipping is.

It was about $50 at the shelter.      cats were neutered and vaccinated   actually one of them was 11 yrs old and he might have cost less.    The younger one ( about a year old)  had really cost them because he was taken there after being found badly burned after a building burned down. so he was in the shelter clinic for a long time.

I adopted 2 cats from a rescue group and that was $125 each.  They paid a lot in vet bills for one of them.  the other one just needed neutering, shots and  i think treatment for a URI.
