Hi there,

I'm new to this site and I'm hoping someone on here might be able to help me.

My cat Maxie has been confirmed pregnant by the vet a few days ago. I know she is carrying two kittens that I know off - but couldn't tell if there are any more. How many am I to expect from her first litter?

The other thing I'm worrying about is my male cat(he got her pregnant) - should I seperate them or keep them together? I've tried keeping Maxie in my bedroom at nights - giving her a large enough box to go to along with bowls of food and water, but she insists on sleeping with me. Will my male be ok if I left her in with him?

Any advice would be greatful - I've got a rough idea of when she's due. Would like to be prepared - my first time dealing with cat pregnancy

With all due respect to you (and I'm not trying to be rude), my first question is.....Why are your cats not neutered and spayed?

I would not keep the two together at all. At all. Period. Why do you not want your female to sleep with you?

As for her pregnancy. well, you've got a little while yet. Has your vet talked to you about what to expect? Has she or he mentioned how many kittens might be there?

I'm sure somebody will help you with your questions concerning what to expect....I honestly don't know much about birthing kittens.

Good luck!

How come you ask this question?  It sounds peculiar.  Is she beating him up??

If so, you do have yet another reason to separate them.   :)

Also, dont think on he will perhaps howl and be unhappy being alone.  Its mom and her kittens who are your first, second AND third priority now.  The tom comes first later.

As said earlier, the usual is to separate them. Another reason is, the mom can get pregnant again even a week after delivery (they go in a heat soon after delivery).  With a tom present who doesnt mind to mate her - its asking for trouble!

But otherways, there ARE exceptions.  If they are best friends, and she wants him near, begs to be with him, him being a friendly male, and he is NOT interested in her nor she in him - yes, it happens folks have their stud with the queen, helping her and the kittens.  Them knowing from earlier they are not interested in each other, being "just good friends".

So, the normal is to separate them. To not separate is exceptions you must have good reasons for.

I will come with some links later, but I hope you do search here around you too. Both in articles on this site, and the other threads.

Good luck!

If you are going to allow them to be together at all after birth, it would be a good idea to get him neutered NOW so that his hormones will die down. Males can still be fertile for several weeks after neutering, so unless you want your female to be pregnant again soon after birth, which would not be good for her or her kittens, it's best to take action now.

You shouls seperate them. The queen cat should be your priorty not the male, my pregnant cat is nesting my bedroom as its dark and comfortable.
Secondly why are your cats not spayed and neuteured?
