I walked the last two miles of this month on the treadmill tonight; it's too hot to walk outside, even now at 7:30. Those two miles gave me 160.25 miles for May.

I made my walking goal of 5 miles per day, even though I didn't do the 5 miles at one shot. I did it 3-4 miles on the treadmill in the morning and then the other 2 miles over lunch at work. I'm still happy about meeting my goal.

We're not going to talk about weight loss.
Well, I only lost about 5 pounds for the month, which isn't much considering how much I walked. But 5 pounds is 5 pounds and I guess it's better than gaining 5 pounds.

I'd like to lose about ten pounds yet. We'll see what the month of June holds.

I've set a couple goals for June:
  • To lose those last ten pounds (but I'd be happy to lose even 5 pounds, to be honest)
  • To walk 100 miles during June, whether it's 3 miles a day or 4 miles a day. I'm taking the summer heat into consideration here, too.
  • To get back on my Nemesis (the elliptical) for at least one mile a night
  • I really need to start my lifting program back up
So we'll see! Hopefully during the next week I'll be able to add lifting/Bowflex to my posts in the Exercise threads.

Congratulations! That is awesome :) And don't worry about the weight - muscle weighs more than fat and I'm sure your legs are getting super toned.

Great work!!! Have you measured yourself? That's a good way to measure progress. I need to do it too. I really dread seeing the numbers, truthfully.

Thanks guys! I'm happy about it!

So far this year:  514.65 miles

Peaches, I haven't measured myself in well over a year.....I've been scared to, too, to be honest. But you're right; it's a good way to keep track and, since it's the beginning of a new month, I did it this morning. (I was right to be scared....not pretty, although not as bad as I thought it would be, especially my thighs and my calves. My arms are terrible, though. But hopefully they will get better, if I can get to my weights.) I will continue to do that at the beginning of every month. It's interesting about my calves; I used to do calf raises, but I haven't done them in a long time. But my calves are OK; they are toned and they don't look bad. Probably from the walking. I really love to walk.

One thing....I used to think that I had cankles....fat ankles. I found out last year that I don't. What I do have are ganglion cysts that are wrapping around the outside of both of my ankles. The physical therapist I had last year told me that and when I changed doctors, she looked at my ankles and that was the first thing she said, too. They don't hurt and they don't interfere with my walking. My insurance company won't pay for the surgery since they're not really causing any problems. So I guess I'm stuck with them. My ankles look funny and I don't like to wear sandals that show my ankles for that reason. But I guess if that's the worst thing that can happen, well, it's OK.

I'm going to the dr on Monday morning for blood work and I'll find out at the end of the June how I'm doing with sugar, cholesterol, all that good stuff.

Thanks for the good thoughts!

Good luck with the blood tests! Are you a diabetic? Just curious since you mentioned sugar.

I am going to force myself to measure tomorrow morning. Oddly enough my arms aren't flabby, but they certainly carry a lot of fat. Most of my weight is around my midsection (worst way to carry it). My blood work is usually very good despite this, except for macrocytic anemia that I've had all of my life.

Build up like I mentioned in the exercise motivation thread. Use a towel for a mat until you get a mat. Do pushups against a wall until you can do them on your knees. Do small squats. Use cans of soup as weights and do bicep curls. Crunchs to build core and save your back. There's lots of stuff you can do!

I measured myself as promised this morning. Yuck. Biggest I have ever been in inches and weight. But that's OK, I've got goals and I'm gonna meet them!

I will try. I'm going out tomorrow to get that mat and small weights. I weigh 214 and want to lose weight so bad I'll try anything. And with my walking my weight goes up & down. The doctor says it's crazy. I go back to him next week Hope it's down. He has told be to stop eating pasta cause of my heartburn but I can't I just love it.

That is a great amount of miles per day and for the month. You are certainly getting some strength and endurance even if the weight isn't coming off as fast as you would like.
If you want to burn more calories try switching your workouts up. I don't know what kind of restrictions you have but doing some sprints mixed with walking will get your heart rate up. Our bodies get used to the same routine and intensity level of our workouts. You have to shake things up to keep that metabolism up.
Weight training is great for boosting your metabolism and burning calories.
Diet is if course important too as the more calories you eat the more you have to burn each day :)

Had the blood work this morning and will find out how things are going at my appt at the end of the month. Thanks for the good thoughts!

No Peaches, I am not diabetic (at least not yet). A lot of my relatives are and my mother was, so I do kind of worry about it. My only problem is high blood pressure and I'm on meds for that and that's partially why I walk so much....walking really keeps my BP on an even keel.

I would like to go back to The Firm DVDs again as I really enjoyed them. But with my knees the way they are (had surgery a couple years ago on one knee) and my back is bad (four blown discs in my lower back and I refuse to have any surgery for that), I really have to be careful. The slightest twist the wrong way and I can be down for weeks. So I'm paranoid. Walking is the one exercise that I can do....as long as I don't over do.

I cannot do lunges, or sit cross-legged, or get on my hands and knees, or get down on my haunches, do dancercises or anything like that. When I garden, I bend at my back the whole time, not good, but it's the only way that I can garden. I just be very careful when I'm working out and doing things and I'm fine. My physical problems don't stop me too much overall....there are always ways to get around them.
