I just spoke to my vet about Moe's bladder stone...she said it was an ammonium acid urate stone.  Uncommon enough in cats that she didn't know which prescription food to recommend and would have to go look it up.  She said it has something to with liver enzymes and recurrence is common.  Has anyone heard of this type of stone and/or had a cat with it?  I'm so worried about my boy.

This is a very rare type of stone in cats, something like 2% of all stones. I doubt many people have experience with it. The diet I see recommended is a low protein alkalinizing one, but I just don't know. I think your best bet is to post on the Yahoo FLUTD group. If anyone has experience with these types of stones, they will.

Also, there is a drug called Allopurinol that may help with these stones. It will be off-label for vet use, but something to talk to your vet about.

The vet mentioned Allopurinol but had mixed feelings about it.  Moe is supposed to go in for a blood test next week to see if there are liver problems.  I'll check out the Yahoo group.  Thank you.
